Chukwuka Ekweani, popularly known as CKay is a Kaduna born Nigerian Afro-pop recording artist and music producer signed to Warner Music African partner, Chocolate City.[1][2] [3]He is known for producing music for Dice Ailes, M.I Abaga, Oritse Femi,Ice Prince, Falz, DJ Neptune, Ruby Gyang, Yung6ix and several other prominent artists in Nigeria, including Better Love, the debut single of IDYL, winner of The Voice, Nigeria 2017.[4]
As a recording artist, he released his first official single, 'Nkechi Turn Up' in November 2016,[5] followed by Gaddemit ft Dremo in June 2017. In 2018, he released Container don land, and featured Zlatan Ibile and South African Moonchild Sanelly in the remix of the song.
Life and Music Career[edit]
CKay was born into the family of Mr and Mrs Ekweani the city of Kaduna, Kaduna State, Northern Nigeria. He was introduced to music by his father who was a choir conductor,[6]and by 13, Ckay had began producing and writing music in a Christian group, where he nurtured his musical skills. [7]
He relocated to Lagos to pursue a musical career and took up job a production intern with Loopy Music, working under M.I. After the Merger of Loopy Music and Chocolate City[8]with M.I emerging as the CEO, CKay became the official Chocolate City in-house producer, producing music for Victoria Kimani, Ice Prince, Jesse Jagz, Dice Ailes, Koker, DJ Lambo and M.I. He worked on the debut album project of Chocolate City artists titled, TICBN VOL 1. By November 3, 2016, CKay was officially signed to Chocolate City, as a recording artist, [9]and so far has released and EP titled, 'Who the Fuck is CKay', along with 3 singles. His most recent single, 'Container don Land' featured South African artist Moonchild Sanelly and Zlatan Ibile.[10]
