The CONAS (English Commonwealth of National Absurdian States), rarely also GNAS (German Gemeinschaft Nationaler Absurdischer Staaten) is an organization between nations on the continent of Absurdistan and is part of the "United Nations of Absurd," along with the VSVRR (United Servers of Rec Room) from the continent of Henkaria and the UoKS (Union of Kernian States) on the continent of Kernia. The CONAS serves as a platform for intergovernmental cooperation between these states. Its main goal is war prevention and economic stability. The CONAS currently has 32 members (as of 15.11.2024).

Geography

The continent of Absurdistan is located on the planet Absurd (better known on Earth as Proxima Centauri b), in the Alpha Centauri system. The planet lies 4.24 light-years away from Earth. Absurd is connected to Earth via an invisible wormhole, which accelerates travel between the two planets at approximately 18.5 times the speed of light.

Climate and Geology

The continent of Absurdistan is known for its climatic diversity. Within the approximately 1,500,000 km², seven to nine different climate zones stretch from the north-viktorian tundra and the Dragonic taiga to the Orianian Ramal desert and the Tembolic savanna.

The climatic differences range from a minimum of -30°C in Huángjinchéng (Dragonia) to a maximum of +65°C in Kimya (Tembolia), resulting in a diverse array of climates, flora, and fauna.

History

Ancient Times and the Age of the Maiorians (until 1791):

In Gaboria, ruins have been discovered that point to a civilization that existed around 2000 to 3000 years ago. These early settlements, with remnants of stone buildings and tools, suggest a developed society whose way of life and culture remain a mystery. However, these ruins date back to a time before the Maiorians, who later played a significant role in Absurdistan, established themselves. It is unclear who these first inhabitants were and how their lives were organized, raising questions about how the cultures of Absurdistan developed over the millennia.

In the southwest of Absurdistan, in the region of today's Speedy-Roxy National Park (in present-day Sunnicasia), the Maiorian people flourished starting in 1362. They were one of the oldest peoples in the region and developed a rich culture, heavily influenced by their ancestor worship. Their influence spanned centuries, and they were one of the most significant civilizations of this early era of Absurdistan. However, from the late 18th century, catastrophic natural disasters, such as earthquakes and tidal waves, led to the destruction of their settlements. The last ruler of the Maiorians, Glödwig II, died in 1791, marking the end of the Maiorian civilization. Nevertheless, their culture and language survived in the northeast of Absurdistan, where various Germanic-speaking peoples later settled. These successors included the Sayfarians, Elysians, Amresians, and other Germanic-speaking peoples.

The Age of the Constantinians and the Rise of Other Cultures (1430 – 1893):

In the 15th century, the Constantinians established themselves when Constantine I founded the Constantinian Empire in 1430. This empire expanded through wars and conquests, especially after gaining full control over Novelia in 1465. By 1508, Tomatania, Avlaria, Newhaven, and parts of St. Nikolia and Mariusa were under Constantinian control, integrating the isolated regions and politically and culturally changing them. The Constantinian Empire continued to wage wars until 1725, when it lost power and many of its conquered territories, leading to the founding of the Kingdom of Amresia in 1745.

In 1251, the Kingdom of Polania was founded in Alpania by Count Paul I. Through a series of wars and alliances, the kingdom expanded significantly. In 1501, Countess Nora II founded the Kingdom of Eldoria, and the two kingdoms maintained close relations. Peace prevailed in the region from 1712. In 1857, the Principality of Alpon was founded by Prince Ludwig I.

In 1467, Wolfgang Kohlrabingxing united various tribes on the Kohlrabian Peninsula, forming Kohlrabia. This laid the foundation for the development of Kohlrabia as an independent political entity.

Around 1490, three tribes coexisted in Elysia: the Fjellian, Hiva, and Stabveian. The Fjellian resembled the Vikings, while the Stabveian resembled the Romans. Over the centuries, these tribes formed various alliances and conflicts, ultimately leading to the formation of the state of Ählüzia in 1848, which later became Elysia.

Gaboria was originally settled by Algonquin peoples, who were gradually displaced by the onset of Absurdian colonization starting in 1408 and the subsequent trade in resources with Absurdian merchants. With the founding of the Principality of Gabora under Prince Bernold I in 1420, a period of independence and prosperity began, making the country a significant grand principality in the region under the House of Homberg. However, Gaboria lost significant territories through the Peace of Joekstoff in 1645.

The rule of the Jumper dynasty in Paxania began in 1523 with Quit Jumper I, who ruled the county of "Paxa Herucana." In 1461, societal structures in the region were dissolved due to growing dissatisfaction with trade families and political conflicts with neighboring states, and a monarchy was established. However, the monarch was still elected by a council at that time. It wasn't until 1534 that Quit Jumper managed to disempower the council with a mandate from the people, establishing his family's rule for the coming centuries.

During this time, in 1645, Mandoria also began its history with expansion under Countess Lisa Geales I, who annexed Ladonia in 1791 and transformed Mandoria into a principality.

In the 18th century, Vikings from Theatoria settled in the northern regions of Absurdistan, including Sayfaria and Avlaria. This immigration influenced the cultural development in these areas and contributed to the formation of new political structures, particularly in Sayfaria, which later became an independent nation. One of the most well-known Theatorian Vikings was Ragnar Ökstorm (the Conqueror), who settled in North Sayfaria.

Rise and Fall of the Mariusian Empire (1893 – 2018):

In 1893, Marius Magnus founded the Mariusian Empire (IAMM), which, through aggressive expansion, conquered nearly all of Absurdistan. Under his rule and that of his son Gaius Magnus, numerous peoples were subjugated, including the Nikolians (1915), Sayfarians (1945), Avlarians (1922), Tomatanians (1933), and many others. Gaius launched extensive offensives from 1938, which brought large parts of the continent under his control until his death in 1957.

His successor, Augustus Magnus, continued this policy and brought the Constantinians (1963), Honuians (1965), Anganians (1965), Orianians (1965), Kohlrabians (1969), Gaborians (1972), and Dragonians (1971) under control. With the conquest of Magadonia in 1973, Mariusa reached its peak as nearly the sole power in Absurdistan.

In 1956, the so-called Unification War of ’56 ended in Paxania. Prince George Jumper III defeated the last two remaining states in the region and founded the Kingdom of Paxania. Since then, the political system has remained nearly unchanged, and uprisings have been rare. The largest uprising took place in 1972/73 when George Jumper III died and his son Quit Jumper IV ascended to the throne.

In the 1990s, as the Mariusian Empire began to crumble, the idea emerged in later Sayfaria to network the successor states of Mariusa into a country alliance. From 1998, secession movements began in the future member states of the CONAS, aiming to make the states independent by founding their own "countries." However, the Mariusa Empire did not recognize these state creations, leading to uprisings for independence.

In April 2018, Sayfaria successfully carried out its secession attempt, becoming the first state to gain independence from Mariusa. In July 2018, the islands of Tomatania and Novelia followed. These events marked the beginning of a historic change.

The Founding and Development of the CONAS (2019 – Present):

On January 23, 2019, the Treaty of Tanvyort was signed. This established the founding of the CONAS, the change of government in Mariusa from an empire to a republic, and the independence of St. Nikolia and North-Viktoria. The founding members of the CONAS were Sayfaria, Tomatania, Mariusa, St. Nikolia, and North-Viktoria. At the time, independent Novelia also wanted to join the CONAS, but a vote by the Novelian population rejected this proposal.

Treaty of Tanvyort

The Sayfarian president Tänyäl Zäyvärd was elected as the first Secretary-General, and the Mariusa Emperor Marius Cremus became the first Vice Secretary of the CONAS.

Since then, with their respective independences, the following joined the CONAS: Sunnicasia in October 2019, Attilaország and Orian in February 2021, Shoukeridis in April 2021, Theatoria in June 2021, Dragonia in September 2021, Tembolia in December 2021, Anga & Honu in February 2022, Sikuitia in April 2022, Gaay Desh in June 2022, Georgenhof in September 2022, Magadonia in November 2022, Mtiskedia in February 2023, Avlaria in March 2023, Elysia in June 2023, Kohlrabia in September 2023, Novelia and Arktika in November 2023, Newhaven in January 2024, Numismia in February 2024, Jodonia in March 2024, Paxania in May 2024, Mandoria and Gaboria in August 2024, Alpania and Cengolistan in October 2024, and Lurava in November 2024 joined as members of CONAS.

On April 20, 2021, the Absurdian Space Agency (ASA), the space organization of CONAS, launched its first manned spaceflight. It was headed to the planet Earth, in the neighboring solar system. The six participating states were Sayfaria, Mariusa, Sunnicasia, North-Viktoria, St. Nikolia, and Tomatania, each sending an astronaut. The flight to Earth was supposed to take 2 months and 22 days via the wormhole, but it successfully landed near the city of Ulm on July 8, 2021, a week earlier than planned.

On November 26, 2021, CONAS changed its logo and flag again, with the current 11 member states. The motto was also changed from "We Help Together!" to "Together we create a World!"

On February 22, 2022, at 14:22, ASA-009, the first spacecraft of CONAS, landed on the planet "Finitima Planeta" (German: Neighbor Planet; on Earth known as Proxima Centauri c). On board were the Mariusian astronaut Aurelius Centurius and the Sayfarian astronaut Äryg Mäknözön. Centurius was the first to step onto the planet. After a few steps, he planted the CONAS flag into the ground and said this phrase over the radio: "Primus ingressus sum vobis." ("I have entered you first."). "Finitima Planeta" is the closest planet to the planet Absurd.

On September 1, 2023, the "United Nations of Absurd" were founded to establish contacts with the continent Henkaria, which had landed the day before on the opposite side of the planet Absurd, and to establish diplomatic and trade relations. On the same day, Hyriki became the first country to leave CONAS.

On February 19, 2024, CONAS founded the International and Neutral Protection Zone of CONAS, corresponding to the former state territory of the Majonaisian Land in Absurdistan. The people living there receive an international CONAS passport and are directly subordinate to the CONAS Parliament in Tanvyort until the area they live in is assigned to a new member state. If this area is attacked by a state, it will be defended just as any current CONAS member state’s territory would be.

On October 25, 2024, the International and Neutral Protection Zone of CONAS was deactivated after the last remaining free area was occupied by Cengolistan.

On November 11, 2024, CONAS officially changed its name from "Commonwealth of New Absurdian States" to "Commonwealth of National Absurdian States."

Tasks and Bodies

Rules and Laws of the CONAS States:

1. No offensive war may be fought against another state; a state may only defend itself against another state. This type of power demonstration has no place in CONAS.
2. A CONAS state must return its territory in Absurdistan to CONAS upon exiting.
3. A CONAS state must ensure peace with other CONAS states.
4. The death penalty violates human dignity, the right to life of the accused, is inhuman, and is therefore prohibited. Additionally, it aims to prevent anyone from being falsely sentenced to death, which cannot be corrected afterward.
5. Genocides or crimes against humanity are unlawful and therefore prohibited.
6. If a CONAS state is militarily attacked by another state, every CONAS state is obligated to assist the attacked CONAS state, whether with humanitarian aid, troops, ammunition/weapons, or military equipment/vehicles.
7. All CONAS states are committed to respecting and protecting human rights. This includes the protection of fundamental rights such as the right to life, liberty, freedom of speech, religious freedom, and the prohibition of torture and discrimination.
8. All CONAS states are required to pay 1% of their GDP as a membership contribution to CONAS annually.

The Ten Functions, Tasks, and Duties of CONAS are:

1. Prevention of war.
2. Mediation in political conflicts.
3. Negotiation between states.
4. Support in all areas of a member state.
5. For economic trade and progress.
6. To defend the attacked in case of war.
7. To serve as an intergovernmental court.
8. To recognize each member state as independent and sovereign.
9. To preserve humanitarian rights in a member state.
10. To impose sanctions on member states that do not comply with membership rules.

CONAS Summit Meetings

CONAS summit meetings take place several times a year (usually every 3 months), with only the founding members and sometimes Sunnicasia (the first non-founding member to have special status) participating. The participants vary from summit to summit, depending on the debate at hand.

Languages

In Absurdistan, Slavic, Germanic, and Latin languages are most widely spoken, but also Arabic, Hindi, Chinese, Greek, Georgian, Hungarian, Swahili, Māori, Kohlrabian, Avlarian, Arktic, Numismian, Inuktitut, and many other languages.

The official working and trade languages of CONAS are German and English, as at least one of these two languages is an official language in every member state.
