Calcutta Blues (Bengali: কোলকাতা ব্লুজ্ ) is a Bengali rock band from Kolkata, Bengal, India. The band was formed in 2005 and, within a short time, has developed a range of songs interpreted in Bengali. The band, consisting of members Iman Sen and Ashok Roy, participated in the 2009 version of MTV Rock On.[1] They performed a song entitled "Rajkanya" that was a great success during their auditions. The song "Smriti" portrays the beautiful memories of college life, as they appealed to a lot of college students. They gained popularity among the younger generation across India.[2][not in citation given] Since its inception, the Calcutta Blues Band has participated in various television programs as well as events sponsored by MTV India and Tara Muzik. They have also performed concerts at various major festivals[which?] as well as in university festivals[which?] held in India. The band has released a new album Rajkanya in 2012.[1]
