Calico Jack are a pirate metal band from Milan founded on 2011 by guitarist Toto.

History[edit]

The band was founded in 2011 by brothers Toto(rhythm guitar) and Caps(drums) with the aim of merging 80s heavy metal with modern Scandinavian folk metal, wrapping everything in a maritime atmosphere, inspired by folk songs and sea shanties of the Anglo-Saxon tradition.

The crew was joined immediately by Dave(fiddler), Giò(singer) and Ricky(bass). After some adjustments Melo(solo guitar) also joined the band.

In November 2012 the first self-produced demo was released, with the help of the band's friend Marco Burla. In June 2013 Calico Jack entered the Frequencies Studio of Monza to record an EP entitled "Panic In The Harbour" containing 4 brand new songs that combine the power of classic heavy with a massive amount of alcoholic folk. The EP was released on October 5th.[1]

In 2015 Giggi replaces Ricky on bass and Calico Jack joined the roster of Ronin Agency having the opportunity to perform in many other dates in northern Italy, opening among others for Negura Bunget, Diabula Rasa, Storm Seeker, while at the same time starting to work on new songs.[2]

Between 2016 and 2017 the band decided it was time to record their first full-length at the Elnor Studio of Davide Tavecchia, with the collaboration of Laura Brancorsini (Furor Gallico) for the violin parts, and then at the Twilight Studio of Mattia Stancioiu(Labyrinth, Crown of Autumn) for mixing and mastering.

In 2019 the debut full-length titled "Calico Jack" was released under the Italian label Underground Symphony.[3][4]
