Camila Mendoza (born December 17, 1997) is a Colombian-American screenwriter, director, and columnist. She is the great-great-grandchild of US President Dwight D. Eisenhower.[1].
Early life
Mendoza was born in Manhattan, New York. Her father, Eduardo Mendoza, the ex Vice Minister of Justice in Colombia and now vice-president of Avianca Airlines, is the only man to ever testify against the drug lord Pablo Escobar. He was portrayed by Manolo Cardona in the Netflix series Narcos[2]. Her mother, Adriana Echavarria-Eisenhower, is a photographer[3]. Mendoza spent her childhood in the Upper East Side of New York, spending her summers between Colombia and Southampton, New York. Mendoza spent most of her school years studying at the prestigious Chapin School. She graduated from Colegio Nueva Granada in Bogotá, Colombia in 2016. She briefly attended Sarah Lawrence College[4]. She currently studies Political Science and English at the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida. She has had opinion pieces published in The Huffington Post and USA Today[5] [6]
In 2017, Mendoza wrote a widely circulated opinion piece in USA Today criticizing the Trump administration's policies on immigrants and refugees[7]. She has been a staunch critic of the current administration[8].
She has a twin brother named Nicolás.
