Caroline M. Leaf is an American author, researcher, communication pathologist, cognitive neuroscientist, clinical therapist and media personality.[1][2] She is best known for authoring a number of books on the subjects of cognitive development and mental health.[3][4][5][6][7] Leaf is founder of Switch on Your Brain International LLC.[8]

Biography[edit]

Caroline Leaf was born and raised in South Africa.[9] She attended the University of Cape Town and received her BSc in Cognitive Neuroscience and Communication Pathology in 1985. She then studied at the University of Pretoria and earned an MSc in 1985. Continuing her studies at University of Pretoria, she received her doctoral degree in psychology in 1997 with her main focus being on Cognitive Neuroscience and Communication Pathology.[10]

Career[edit]

Leaf frequently lectures at academic, medical and neuroscience conferences and gives TEDx Talk.[11] She is also a media personality with over 675k followers on Instagram and 200k followers on YouTube.[12][13]

Leaf is founder of Switch on Your Brain International LLC, a company related to a for profit project related to 21 Day Brain Detox Program based on her research.[8] Leaf created Neurocycle App available on Apple Store and Google Play, with the program to improve mental health and overcome anxiety and stress.[14] She also has Cleaning Up The Mental Mess with Dr. Caroline Leaf podcast on Apple Podcasts.[15]

Research[edit]

Caroline Leaf developed Geodesic Information Processing theory based on her PhD thesis published in 1997.[1][16] The theory is applied in her clinic trials with the 5 step program's implementation of mind-directed techniques to help patients to relieve mental ill-health problems such as anxiety, depression and intrusive thoughts.[1][17]
