Casey Lagos is a Filipino/American musician and songwriter born in 1988. He is known for drumming/songwriting in Stick to Your Guns, a solo project named Sealakes and filling in on drums for Australian band Parkway Drive as well as on bass for British band Architects. Casey is an endorser of Masters of Maple drums, Paiste cymbals, Vic Firth drum sticks, PeterSaysDenim, Dropdead Clothing and Skullcandy headphones.
Biography[edit]
Born on May 1, 1988. Casey started playing drums at the age of 3 and guitar at 4. Growing up in Orange County, CA he played in the worship team at Saddleback Church which helped mold him musically on drums, bass, guitar, and vocals. As a child, he was on one or 1/2 season of the kid's Christian television show Colby's Clubhouse originally airing on Trinity Broadcasting Network. In an interview with Canada's "HARDTIMES.Ca" Casey stated that he was a believer in Jesus Christ, and that with his Christian beliefs he doesn't believe in doing drugs, drinking, or having sex before marriage.
Musical history[edit]
Stick To Your Guns (2003–2008)[edit]
In 2003 Casey was asked to join Stick To Your Guns("STYG") by Jesse Barnett, who knew Casey from also playing on the worship team for Saddleback Church. The two wrote a three-song demo together before recruiting the original members. This was the way the two functioned throughout the time Casey was part of the band. They often would switch off on who wrote guitar/bass parts for songs. After numerous local shows Stick To Your Guns recorded an 8-song E.P. entitled Compassion Without Compromise in 2004. The band traveled to Oakland, California, when Casey was the age of 17 to record its debut For What It's Worth, which was later released on This City's Burning Records. FWIW included song "This is More", which is the band's most-known song. STYG filmed a music video for the song, generating a buzz about the band nationally. After everyone in the band graduated high school they went full throttle touring the states. For What It's Worth was later re-released by Sumerian Records when the band received a warm welcoming nationally. In 2007 Casey switched from drumming to playing guitar live for two tours, while Elliott Sellers took over drums. After the few tours, Elliott didn't fit the mold and Casey went back to drums. In 2008 the band signed to Century Media records. Releasing their second full-length, Comes From The Heart, Casey is credited on composing a majority of the track listing. He was a part of all the band's tours, including Warped Tour 2008, and Hell on Earth (Europe) 2008, but decided to leave the band while supporting the Every Time I Die tour during November 2008 to pursue his own music.[1]
The Warriors (2005)[edit]
In late 2005 STYG played Breakthrough festival. The line up included many bands that have made a name for themselves today such as Job For A Cowboy, The Faceless, and Winds of Plague. The headliner of the day was The Warriors, coincidentally Casey's favorite band at the time. After STYG played, a member of The Warriors asked Casey if he would like to fill-in on their upcoming tour. Casey took the opportunity. The tour included Blacklisted and Embrace The End. Through the tour Casey gained connections to Ash Avildson who is the owner of Sumerian Records and The Patheon Agency. Ash became a mentor for STYG along as their booking agent, and later signed them to his label.
Parkway Drive (2009)[edit]
On Thrash and Burn 2008, Casey be-friended a few Aussies that called themselves Parkway Drive. When drummer Ben Gordon stayed home, the group reached out to Casey to fill the position for the following tours. Casey played in PWD on their 2009 U.S./Canada headliner, which included his ex-band mates Stick To Your Guns. After the headline tour they again asked Casey to play with them, this time in Europe for headline and festival shows. They played festivals such as Download Festival in England, Groezrock in Belgium, and With Full Force in Germany. The group also played a headline show in Palma, Majorca, being one of the first hardcore bands to tour to the island.
Sealakes (2009-present)[edit]
Sealakes was derived from Casey's name. Ca-(SEY), dropped the "Y" added an "A", (Lagos) translates to Lakes in Spanish. In August 2009, Casey posted on his music Myspace that he entered the studio to begin recording a solo album. The album's release is still to be determined.
His debut solo music is set to be streamed from his music Myspace in August 2010.[needs update]
On August 24, 2010 SeaLakes launched on Myspace, allowing viewers to hear two new songs: "Every Heart" and "Go Again" (which also was released with a in-studio session on YouTube).
On September 7, 2010 it was announced that the first Sealakes EP was being mixed and would soon be available on iTunes.
It was seen on Casey's Twitter that Sealakes would release the EP on October 11, 2010.[needs update]
A rough demo of "Crack At The Knees" was posted in December 2010.
May 1, 2011 "Crack At The Knees" was up for free download as Casey's birthday gift to all his fans. The song is now a single on iTunes for purchase.
Confide (2010)[edit]
On the 2010 Band of Brothers tour, Casey filled in for Ross Kenyon on vocals for Confide. This was coincidentally Confide's last tour.
Architects (2011)[edit]
On December 29, 2010 It was announced on the Sealakes Facebook page that Casey would tour playing in Architects. He is to accompany them on their upcoming run with The Devil Wears Prada and Bring Me the Horizon. The dates are stated for January and February 2011 and is to take place in Europe.[needs update]
Producing and co-writing (2010- present)[edit]
Casey began his producing and co-writing career in 2010. Some of his clients include Sony Music Entertainment and Columbia Records.
He is currently working with a Rock group from Germany.
