Chamu Chiwanza is a Zimbabwean entrepreneur, politician and former president of Affirmative Action Group.[1] He has been listed among the most influential people in Zimbabwe.[2][3]

Background[edit]

Chamu Chiwanza was born in and grew up in Mubvuku, Harare. He went to Kutama College for his high school then went to Qatar to study for a Bachelor of Science in Business Leadership. He is a Class 1 Aircraft Engineer.

Chiwanza started working at a mechanics business when he finished his high school advanced level. His first company was Primetime Motors which he later sold. He is the chief executive of Cernic Finance Group.[citation needed]

Chamu Chiwanza has been involved in establishing and administrating some entrepreneurship empowerment initiatives which include Affirmative Action Group,[4] an organization that was formed in 1994 after Zimbabwe independence to assist black entrepreneurs to develop businesses. He was also part of Simba Savannah[5] a ZBC TV reality show panel which assisted emerging African entrepreneurs and was supported by the United States Embassy in Zimbabwe. In 2014, he launched a business enterprise scheme called The Shift[6] which has a mandate of empowering business people and in March 2019 The Shift was launched in the UK.[7]

In 2012, Chiwanza was part of Mzansi ‘90 committee which was commissioned to raise funds for the Zimbabwe football team that was going for the AFCON qualifier match in Angola. The committee also included the likes of Desmond Ali and Joe Gombera.[8]

Chamu Chiwanza became the youngest member of the Zimbabwe Football Association Executive Committee in history of Zimbabwean football governance and was suspended in July 2019 then got expelled from the association in August the same year after being accused of sabotage which resulted in national team players striking during the AFCON 2019.[9]
