Charles Hearn (born c. 1991) is an American software engineer, entrepreneur, co-founder and the chief technology officer (CTO) of Alloy, a financial technology company that provides an identity decisioning and risk management platform for financial institutions and fintech firms.[1][2][3]
Early life and education
Hearn grew up in Virginia and studied at the University of Virginia.[4] He graduated with a degree in computer science in 2013.[5]
Career
Hearn began his career in software development and technical research. Between 2011 and 2013, he served as the mobile lead and general developer for the startup The City Swig. During this period, he also conducted independent research at the University of Virginia, focusing on the exploitation of GSM authentication protocols.[4][1]
In August 2013 Hearn joined Microsoft as a program manager on the Bing Index and Knowledge team.[5][1] In 2014, he moved into the fintech sector, serving as the lead product engineer at Knox Payments.[4][2]
In February 2015, Charles Hearn along with Laura Spiekerman and Tommy Nicholas founded Alloy.[6] The company was accepted into the Barclays Accelerator powered by Techstars in the summer of 2015 and, in 2016, raised roughly US$1.5 million from investors including Primary Ventures and Launch Capital.[7]
In 2021, Hearn was named to the Forbes 30 Under 30 list in the Enterprise Technology category.[5] Alloy raised a US$100 million Series C round led by Lightspeed Venture Partners in September 2021 at a US$1.35 billion valuation, making it a unicorn.[8][9] In September 2022, the company announced a Series C extension, bringing its valuation to $1.55 billion.[10][11][12]
In March 2025 Hearn released Fraud Attack Radar, which uses network-wide signals to detect coordinated fraud attacks in progress and recommend responses to clients.[13][14] In February 2026 Alloy launched a native AI Assistant.[15][16][17]
