Charles Perry (born July 11, 1986) is an American pop/alternative singer and songwriter from Brooklyn, New York. He is best known for his rendition of Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros' "Home," and his live performance on the 2012 BET Music Awards.
Career[edit]
Perry got his start singing in church at the age of 5.[1] As a teen, he performed with notable R&B artists such as Shirley Caesar, Luther Vandross and Regina Belle. In 2001, he appeared as a backing performer with Michael Jackson on his 30th Anniversary Special [2]
On March 8, 2012, Perry posted his rendition of “Home,” by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, on YouTube. The rendition quickly garnered the attention of the band, who posted the video on their blog[3] and brought it to the attention of BET Music President, Steven Hill.
Hill subsequently booked Charles Perry to performed “Home,” live on the 2012 BET Music Awards on July 2, 2012, as part of the Music Matters Showcase.[4] The next day, Perry performed at a private performance at CAA Music headquarters in Los Angeles, CA before an audience that included Stevie Wonder, the Jackson Family, and Spike Lee, among others.[5]
Perry has toured with Blackstreet’s Dave Hollister and British R&B star Estelle.[6]
Solo Album[edit]
Perry is currently recording his debut solo album in Los Angeles, set for a 2013 release.[7]
Debut Music Video[edit]
Perry released a video for the single "I Could Be the Best Time of Your Life" on November 25, 2012; it premiered on BET's 106 & Park.[8] The video, which received 100,000 views its first week, features Entourage star Emmanuelle Chriqui [9] and actor Jeff Goldblum.[10] The video was tweeted by notables such as Adrian Grenier,[11] Lance Bass,[12] Jerry Farerra,[13] R&B singer Chrisette Michelle, D.A. Wallach,[14] and Entourage music curator Scott Vener.[15]
Personal life[edit]
Perry lives in Brooklyn, New York, and is the father of one son, Josiah.[16]
