Life and Career
Charles Wakeman grew up in Miami, FL and moved to Corpus Christi, TX when he was thirty-two. After graduating from Hialeah Senior High School located in Hialeah, FL, he graduated from Full Sail University with an Associate of Science in Audio Engineering, and a Bachelor of Science in Business. Shortly following his graduation, Charles received an internship at local private recording studio Circle House Studios in Miami, FL. He started out as a food runner and worked his way up to an engineering position.[1] Eventually becoming the chief engineer and "go-to" person for numerous artists and producers.[2]
As a recording and mix engineer, Wakeman has worked with such well-known artists as Camila Cabello, DJ Khaled, Calle 13, Stephen Marley, Shakira, Mary J. Blige, Usher, AKON, Damian "JR Gong" Marley, and Pitbull.[3][4]
He won his first Grammy in 2010 at the age of 25 for Calle 13's album, Los de Atrás Vienen Conmigo as an assistant engineer. Two years later he received more Grammy Awards with Calle 13's album, Entren Los Que Quieran. This album went on to sweep all its nominations winning nine total Grammys, breaking the record for most Grammys won in a single night. [5] Charles went on to work on other successful projects, such as Stephen Marley's album "Revelation, Pt. 1: The Root of Life" which went on to win "Best Reggae Album" in 2011, and SOJA's album "Amid The Noise And Haste"[6] which was nominated for "Best Reggae Album" in 2015.
On March 30, 2017, Charles was awarded with a 6x Platinum award for recording Farruko's single "Chillax"[7]
Charles now resides in Corpus Christi, TX, traveling between cities in search of his next big project.
