Karl Cloutier (born September 30, 1994), known online as Charmx (formerly DoYoTing, TheCriticalBastard, then CharmxGames), is a Canadian former YouTuber. His main channel was founded in 2017 and had been supposedly been taken down due to multiple copyright strikes, but is still in function today. He currently has two other backup channels named Charmx2 and Charmx3.

Personal life[edit]

Cloutier was born on September 30, 1994 in Ontario, Canada. He has one brother. He currently lives in his parents' house, and explained in a video that he lives upstairs but his computer setup is in the basement, and usually records videos when they are out of the house. Cloutier despises living there and has made a 2018 resolution to make enough money and move out of the house. To do so, however, he is using YouTube's monetization feature, having to censor, or completely edit out, inappropriate or controversial words and actions in videos to avoid demonetization. Cloutier finds out that he needs to gather income elsewhere not only from YouTube. Due to this, he works on side projects to earn more money. At the end of 2018, he didn't manage to get out of the house. Cloutier planned to move out in 2019 but didn’t manage to do so due to making a small amount of income from the side projects. On July 20, 2020, he announced that he would be moving with a friend of his. No updates were provided to Cloutier from then, but on November 16 of the same year, he announced that he would be moving into a basement apartment on January 1, 2021.

Career[edit]

Cloutier began his YouTube career in March 2013 with his first channel called TheCriticalBastard (or TBC; initially called DoYoTing). TBC is still up today, but it is abandoned, and the videos are no longer available on that channel. However, some TBC videos have been archived and reuploaded onto a channel called TheCriticalBastardArchive. In April 2014, Cloutier created the original Charmx channel, CharmxGames. As time went on, he slowly transitioned from gaming to reactions. On December 10, 2015, he created a second channel called Charmx2 for the reason of too many requests. In February 2016, he ended his original CharmxGames channel to avoid a third strike. Charmx2 became his main channel and was renamed Charmx after a while. In February 2017, Cloutier's old channel ended up in near-termination. Some time later in mid-2017, he created the new Charmx2 channel to get back up on his feet. After regaining popularity after more than a year of trouble, Cloutier created the new and current Charmx channel on July 22, 2017. Not long after, the original Charmx era came to an end when his old channel, with 813,011 subscribers at the time, was terminated on August 14, 2017, due to getting three copyright strikes, when "My Last Video" was posted the day before at 11 AM. In November 2017, he made Charmx3, his third channel that is currently focused on YTP reactions. On September 5, 2020, Cloutier created a gaming channel called Charmx Plays, where he returns to his gaming style. In early 2021, Cloutier announced that he would no longer be using his Charmx2 and Charmx3 channels, as they cause constant stress for him. On March 31, 2021, Cloutier uploaded his final two videos on YouTube, explaining that he will no longer be active on the platform due to its new controversial policies.

Original characters[edit]

On August 5, 2018, Cloutier recorded a video of a huge yellow zucchini and pretending to use it as a weapon, in which he portrays "The Zucchini King". Four days later, professional memer Grandayy asked him to make a short video for his 1 million subscribers video where Cloutier will vote for him, a meme election. Cloutier decided to record a scene with two zucchinis. On September 24, 2019, he returns being "The Zucchini King" with another big zucchini, except green. On August 17, 2020, Cloutier uploaded a video to his YouTube channel where he reveals what his hair looks like, and due to his baldness, he created a new original character called "The Bald Bastard", who has a Memeulous-style facial disguise.
