Grandayy is a Maltese music producer and YouTuber. He commonly produces memes, covers of songs using the noteblock system in the video game Minecraft, and other comedic content, and currently has over 2 million subscribers on his main channel "Grandayy". He also has a second channel called “grande1899” with over 600,000 subscribers. He is commonly associated alongside other large meme-centric YouTubers such as Dolan Dark and FlyingKitty and, like them, has been endorsed by various YouTubers such as PewDiePie[3] and VoiceoverPete. Currently, he is the most subscribed YouTuber from Malta (as of May 18th, 2019). [4]

History[edit]

Although Grandayy posted his first videos in 2007 , he rose to fame on his then-main channel, grande1899, in 2011 after posting multiple Minecraft note block song covers.[5] He continued doing these as they worked well for him up until July 2, 2014, when he created his second account (now called Grandayy). From there he continued to post note block covers of songs on grande1899 and posted clips of soccer onto YouTube on Grandayy. On March 18, 2015, he posted the first meme to his Grandayy account, a Half-Life 3 meme using clips from the movie Interstellar. It wouldn't be until November 1, 2016 when he posted his first We Are Number One meme on his Grandayy account, which was a mashup of the song from LazyTown and Bring Me to Life by Evanescence. From then on he started to increase in popularity, posting many "WANO" memes. Since then he has grown in popularity drastically, to the point of becoming the top subscribed Maltese YouTuber.[1] On August 7, 2018, he achieved one million subscribers. On 23 March 2019, Dan Bull released Robocopyright, a song criticising Article 13 of the proposed Directive on Copyright in the Digital Single Market. This song also featured other YouTubers such as PewDiePie, Jacksepticeye and Roomie. The main video was released on Grandayy's YouTube channel.[6]

Music[edit]

Grandayy has expressed a love for music, starting all the way back in 2011 with his Minecraft note block songs, all the way to most recently with the release of his parody of PewDiePie's song Bitch Lasagna, Witch Savanna. Although he has created many songs through his note block covers under his grande1899 label, he has also created five tracks that Google recognizes as being songs by the "hip-hop/rap" artist, Grandayy. These five songs are on YouTube, Deezer, Spotify, iTunes, as well as Google Play Music, and are his songs Sunrise [7](2017), an original song featuring Tom Spander, The Fall of PewDiePie[8], a fake diss track on YouTube's top subscribed YouTuber, China Gang[9], a parody of the song Gucci Gang using sound clips from Donald Trump, China[10], a parody of the song Havana, also using sound clips from Donald Trump. In November, he produced the song Witch Savanna[11], a parody of PewDiePie's song Bitch Lasagna using Minecraft's note blocks with lyrics provided by ReptileLegit. He later in the end of 2018 participated in PewDiePie's adaptation of YouTube Rewind 2018 alongside Dolan Dark, FlyingKitty, and electronic music producer Party In Backyard. In December, he once again collaborated with ReptileLegit to create Gamer Time[12], a parody of asdfmovie's Muffin Time[13].
