Tudor Chiriac /ˈtjuːdə kiri’æc / (born on March 21, 1949 in Ciuculeni, Hîncești, Republic of Moldova) is a PhD University Professor, member of the Union of Composers and Musicologists of Republic of Moldova (UCMM), member of the Union of Romanian Composers and Musicologists (UCMR). He settled in the city of Iași in 1995.

Chiriac studied at the State Institute of Arts "Gavriil Muzicescu" in Chişinău: composition and musical forms - Solomon Lobel, harmony and orchestration - Leonid Gurov; polyphony - Margarita Belîh. He also trained in composition and orchestration practical stages under the guidance of Prof. Iuri Alexandrovici Fortunatov from Moscow “P. I. Tchaikovsky” Conservatory.[1]

Chiriac’s work stands under the sign of the principle of integrity through diversity. The diverse range of the musical genres approached by the composer is governed by the concept of music with an integral entity: of Romanian ancestral filiation. The phrase belongs to Tudor Chiriac [1] and represents that perimeter of universal music within which his own creation fits with accuracy and honesty. In this direction, very important for the composer, lies his musical work of academic style and the Romanian superior genre about which Constantin Brăiloiu also wrote.

Key points[edit]

As an artistic phenomenon of academic nature, the work of Tudor Chiriac is in accordance with the fundamental principles of the processuality of music as a temporal art, with the capital laws of becoming that constitute the philosophy of form, with the principle of defining the musical genre, according to the ethos and the content of the music.

"These principles represent the superior musical thinking that generates a sound music with a well-rounded, solid dramaturgy. Without them, a national school of composition cannot be qualified as such." - consigns Tudor Chiriac.

Chronologically, the formation and activity of the composer coincide with the period of modernity of the XX-XXI centuries; Modernity, ancestrality and identity are the defining components of his work. In connection with modernity of these centuries, however, Tudor Chiriac mentions: The modern spirit of a musical work does not consist in the number of clusters and dissonances, but in the fact if it raises a question mark in front of its contemporaries.[2]

Despre creație[edit]

For the composer Tudor Chiriac, the art of sounds represents a form of communication of major existential meanings, and not just an occasion to discuss about its "neologisms" and its inner order. Establishing the Music Semantics discipline at the "George Enescu" National University of Arts in Iași, Tudor Chiriac writes the study called Music Semantics - fundamental principles from which a profoundly scientific motivation transpires, which led the author to announce the semantic codes off works belonging to him. These codes - semantic conventions - are like small music hall programs that facilitate the access to the ideatic layer of his music. It is an unprecedented case in the history of universal music, when a composer leaves testimonies about his creative intentions and conceptions, theorizing in a principled way his audacious, even unusual gesture. When Ion Gagim said: "The Unique composer Tudor Chiriac," he also made this statement of principles.
