Chris Anastasopoulos is a Canadian business leader and senior finance executive with over 30 years of experience in the financial services industry. He has served as the CFO of DRI Capital until 2024. Known for his strategic, results-oriented approach, he has earned a strong reputation for transforming financial teams, leveraging technology to enhance productivity, and driving long-term business success. Throughout his career, Anastasopoulos has held key leadership roles in various prominent organizations, with a particular focus on asset management, financial planning, and risk management.[1]

Early life and education

Chris Anastasopoulos holds a Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com) degree from the University of Toronto, Faculty of Arts and Science, which he completed in 1991. He furthered his education at the Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto, where he earned an MBA in 2009. During his time at Rotman, he was named a Dean’s List student and a Bregman Scholar. In 2018, he completed the CFO Leadership Program at Rotman.

Career

DRI Healthcare/DRI Capital Inc. (2015 to 2024)

He served as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at DRI Healthcare/DRI Capital Inc., a global asset manager. In this role, he was responsible for leading the finance and administrative functions and managing over $3 billion in pharmaceutical royalty streams. He played a pivotal role in overseeing financial reporting for multiple international entities, tax strategy, public and regulatory reporting, and the implementation of advanced financial systems. Anastasopoulos was also instrumental in DRI's initial public offering (IPO) of DRI Healthcare Trust (DHT) and led the integration of cloud-based financial systems, which enhanced data analytics and reporting efficiency.

OMERS (2004 to 2015)

At OMERS, a Canadian pension fund, Chris Anastasopoulos held several senior roles, including Vice President of Finance, Operations & Business Development at OMERS Investment Management Inc. (OIM). In this capacity, he managed a portfolio worth $1.3 billion and played a crucial role in streamlining finance and operations functions. Anastasopoulos also helped raise over US$12 billion in capital for OMERS Strategic Investments LP, managing investments across diverse sectors such as oil and gas, industrial services, and venture capital.[2]

TD Bank (1997 to 2004)

He began his career at TD Bank, where he held various roles, including Manager of Group Finance and Assistant Controller for Subsidiaries and Affiliates. His responsibilities included consolidated financial reporting, tax compliance, and the implementation of policies and procedures for Sarbanes-Oxley Act compliance. He contributed to improving internal processes, reducing the time required to close financial reports, and enhancing reporting accuracy.

KPMG (1991 to 1997)

Chris began his professional journey at KPMG, where he worked as an Audit Manager. He oversaw audit engagements for medium to large-sized companies across various industries, managing audit teams and implementing information technology solutions for the audit group.

Public works

He has been actively involved in various community and charitable activities. Since 2018, he has served as a Board Member and Treasurer at the Fred Victor Centre, a Toronto-based organization supporting individuals facing homelessness. He also chairs the Finance Committee at Fred Victor. Additionally, he contributes to the leadership and career development efforts of Financial Executives International Canada (FEI Canada) and mentors MBA students at the Rotman School of Management. Chris Anastasopoulos has also been involved in organizing charitable events, including the OMERS Art Auction.[3]
