She graduated high school after only three years, and received a Houston Press Scholarship, on which she obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communications/Journalism at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.

Her children’s Sinny-Size book series, was inspired by her daughter, Sienna, who is a Primordial Dwarf. Bernal wanted to create a storyline that would embody her daughter’s spirit, self-confidence in a fun and entertaining way, to inspire and capture children’s imagination.

Bernal's Living Life Sinny-Sized, is an account of the birth of her twins, the discovery of Sienna's condition and the challenges that followed.
Her speaking engagements and additional writings, including her upcoming novel Out of Mind Experience and her popular blog "Having it All", are fueled by her life experiences, including the tumultuous start to adult-hood, being a step-parent, overcoming obstacles, parenting twins, competing in physique competitions and woman empowerment.
