"Circus Berserkus" is the sixth episode of the first season of the American comedy television series Freelancers. The episode premiered on YouTube, on May 9, 2019.[1] The episode was written by series co-star Whitney Call and was directed by Jed Wells.

In the episode, the group has to walk through a haunted house, in order to receive payment from Mr. Nightmare (Jeremy Warner).

Plot[edit]

After filming an ad for the Circus Berserkus haunted house Nightmare on 13th, Arizona (Whitney Call) questions the Circus Berserkus owner, Mr. Nightmare (Jeremy Warner) on why he avoids her every time she questions him on the subject of his payment. Mr. Nightmare responds by stating he added a section to the waiver the group signed, stating that they have to complete the Nightmare on 13th haunted house in order to receive full payment for the commercial.

Before entering the haunted house, Micah (Stacey Harkey) mentions he once went to an abandoned mental hospital where he heard a mysterious voice call him fat. Owen (Stephen Meek) mentions that he normally begins to breakout when he's scared and Devin (Mallory Everton) tells the group she doesn't like circuses.

Once inside, Micah mentions he visited an abandoned orphanage where he found a message written in blood calling him fat, and Devin reveals she used to work as a circus clown who had to eat raw meat while people guessed her credit score. As they pass through the haunted house, the group splits up. Micah and Ryan (Matt Meese) decide to pull pranks on visitors when they find a clown mask, Owen searches for concealer, Arizona develops a romantic interest for Chainsaw Boy (Anson Bagley), and Devin pulls out a whip and walks toward a ringmaster.

Owen joins a group of kids but gets kicked out for being too annoying, Ryan and Micah are warned by the Jaded Clown (Jason Gray) to stop pulling pranks, and Arizona chases Chainsaw Boy.

After accidentally pulling a prank on Devin, Ryan is punched in the stomach and is carried to a hall of mirrors by Micah. Owen finds clown foundation on the ground and Arizona and Chainsaw Boy share a kiss. In the hall of mirrors, the Jaded Clown calls Micah fat, and Ryan and Micah find Devin. Devin, Ryan, Micah, and Owen all reach the exit of the haunted house.

Meanwhile, Arizona finds out Chainsaw Boy is underaged and leaves him. She reaches the exit and receives the payment from Mr. Nightmare. Mr. Nightmare, impressed, gives his hat to Arizona and names her the new Mr. Nightmare.

After the group leaves, two detectives, led by Mr. Nightmare, enter a room containing raw meat splattered everywhere by Devin and the number "720" written multiple times on a wall. One of the detectives (Parker Kelly), goes crazy trying to figure out what the numbers mean.
