City-recognized tribes in the United States
City-recognized tribes in the United States are tribal organizations that identify Native American tribes or heritage groups. They generally do not meet the criteria for federally recognized Indian tribes but have been recognized by a city. These tribes are still subject to state law and government, and the tribes do not have sovereign control over their affairs.
