Citybus Route 1P is a peak-hour express bus route operated by Citybus (CTB) on Hong Kong Island. It operates a one-way morning service from Happy Valley (Broadwood Road) to Central Market via Wan Chai and Admiralty.
History
The Transport Department anticipated changes in travel patterns of passengers in the Central and Western District following the commissioning of the MTR West Island line in late 2014. In a document titled Revised Public Transport Re-organisation Plans to tie in with the Commissioning of the West Island Line issued in July 2013,[1] it was proposed that Citybus Route 5S would be cancelled and replaced by a new route, 1P, operated by Citybus. The new route would provide weekday morning services from Happy Valley to Wan Chai, Admiralty and Central, and would operate jointly with Route 1 along the corridor with a combined frequency of approximately 6 minutes.
In January 2014, the Transport Department revised the proposal in a follow-up document,[2] suggesting the addition of an afternoon return service from Central to Happy Valley on weekdays.
Route change history
- 11 May 2015: Route 1P commenced service, replacing Route 5S. All interchange concessions of Route 5S were cancelled.[3][4]
- 18 May 2015: Morning service was increased to eight trips.[5]
- 29 June 2015: The route was rerouted via Queen's Road East towards Central, omitting Morrison Hill Road, Wan Chai Road, Fleming Road and Hennessy Road, effectively reverting to the original routing of Route 5S in Wan Chai.[6][7]
- 6 July 2015: Morning service was reduced to seven trips, although actual headways remained unchanged.
- 12 February 2018: The "Next Bus" arrival enquiry service was introduced on this route.[8]
- 21 December 2020: Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, morning service was reduced to six trips and the afternoon service was suspended.[9] The afternoon service was permanently withdrawn on 8 February 2021.[10]
- 4 March 2022: Service was suspended due to the fifth wave of the COVID-19 pandemic and resumed on 21 April 2022 with limited service.[11][12]
- 19 May 2022: Service was reduced to four trips.
