College Ave Student Loans is a private student loan and student loan refinancing company founded in Wilmington, Delaware.[2] in 2014 by Joe DePaulo and Tim Staley,[3] both of whom were previously executives at Sallie Mae.[4] College Ave was the first "marketplace lender to focus on helping students and their families during and after school."[4] By June 2016, College Ave had approved over $430 million in student loans.[5] In October 2017, College Ave completed a $161 Million Securitization, its first.[6][7]

History[edit]

At the time College Ave was founded in 2014, it was the first new private student loan provider to enter the private college education loan market in almost three years.[3] College Ave focused on specializing the customer experience and offering flexible loans types.[4] It approved over $430 million in loans between December 2014 and June 2016[5] and received an additional $30 million in equity funding in early 2017,[8] bringing its four-round total to over $60 million.[9] As of April 2017, its funding options were offered to students at more than 2,500 colleges across the United States.[1] College Ave offers loans for undergraduate and graduate students, as well as private parent loans,[10] an alternative to federal parent loans that have fixed interest rates.[11] It also offers student loan refinancing.[12][13]

Both DePaulo and Jim Keller have been featured speakers and panelists at industry events.[14][15][16][17] In a January 2016 article about the future of online marketplace lending, Experian included DePaulo as an industry expert.[18] DePaulo was also featured in a 2016 Squawk Box episode, Tackling the Student Debt Crisis,[5] and a March 2017 WSJ: Watching Your Wealth podcast, Key Tax Tips for Your Student Loans.[19]
