Colleges of Distinction is a free website service for college-bound students, counselors, and parents. It offers information about colleges and universities that excel in four distinctive categories: the engagement of students, the success of graduates, the quality of faculty and the general atmosphere on campus.

History[edit]

The website was developed by a group of high school guidance and college counselors with the help of marketing and public relations professionals in 2002. The group developed the four distinctions in order to feature the unique and successful teaching-focused colleges and universities on the website. Colleges of Distinction was strictly online until 2008 when the company began publishing a book with Kendall/Hunt Publishing Company.

How schools are chosen[edit]

Schools are normally nominated by high school counselors. In order to qualify to be considered a College of Distinction schools must be exceptional in all four distinctions: engaged students, great teaching, vibrant communities, and successful outcomes.
