ComalcOOL is a Spanish rock band from Vinaròs, Castellón (Spain). The band was formed in 2003, although the definitive line-up was not established until the end of 2004. Their discography contains two self-edited demo CDs, "El Sonido más cOOL" in 2006 and "Otra vez por aquí" in 2008. In 2010 they released their self-produced debut album,"¿Para qué correr?" . In June 2013 their latest album "Super Extra Plus", got great reviews from the music press and from the general public.
Origins
The founder members of Comalcool were Miguel Angel Pedrosa Peral "Llantias" (vocals)(guitar), Vicente Javier Ferreres "Xavicent" (drum), Miguel Angel Perales Aran (bass)Alberto Fernandez Poy "Cocoon" (guitar) and Hector Reina Martin "Phanktom48" (vocals)(keyboard). The original bass player, Miguel Angel Perales Aran left the band and was replaced by Ivan Gonzalez Martinez "Chippie" (bass) at the end of 2004, thus completing the definitive Comalcool formation. The band takes its name from the phrase "com el cul" literally meaning "like a bum" due to their sound (playing bum notes) but they anglicized it in order to make it sound better.
The recording of their two first self-published demos, "El Sonido más cOOL" in 2006 and "Otra vez por aquí" in 2008, were recorded in their own rehearsal studio. In 2010 they released their first self-produced album, titled "¿Para qué correr?" ,(which means "Why run?") with artwork by Diego Latorre'. They toured this album recording live videos at different venues such as FNAC Valencia, Razzmatazz in Barcelona, reaching the Top 10 of the best albums of Mondo Sonoro Comunidad Valenciana. From 2012 they have been one of the leading bands broadcasting their rehearsals through the Internet via Life Stream, allowing fans from far afield to visualize them live no matter where they are. In June 2013, their latest work, titled "Super Extra Plus" was released with cover artwork by Triz Vega and designed by David Pruñonosa.. "Super Extra Plus" is the band's fourth album. It was recorded live in the studio with no overdubs emulating recordings of the 70's. "Exile on Main Street by the Stones being a good example, where the mobile studio unit is moved into an ancient building. In ComalcOOL's case, it was an old eighteenth-century 1800 mill, which has been transformed into the well-known Quixote Pub in Vinaròs. "Super Extra Plus", as well as "Para qué correr?", are all live recordings, in which even the slightest mistakes have been left in order to give it more authentic feel. Super Extra Plus was produced by the band, thanks to the financial contributions of their fans through the crowdfunding system.
