The novel Copenhagen - The Triangle of Death, by Iraqi writer and art critic "Hussein Al-Sakkaf " is a novel that reveals the secrets of the emergence of terrorism in Iraq.[1] This novel was published in Beirut 0n 2015.[2]

Title[edit]

The significance of the title lies in its connotation; the novel tells the story of Danish journalist Kamila Andersen's trip to Iraq, which began in mid-2004 from Denmark with her Iraqi journalist husband, Alaa Kazim, who is based in Denmark and holds Danish citizenship. The "Death Triangle" is the entire central Iraqi region of Iraq, which consists of the city of Mahmudiyah and the surrounding areas confined between Baghdad Governorate North and Babylon Governorate South. It is the center of that triangle, which has become one of Iraq's most notorious places for inciting terror and massive terrorist operations and has been reported in all countries of the world, including Denmark. According to a Danish individual through the media، that small areas are in fact villages and countryside belonging to the city of Mahmudiyah that fall within the scope of something-called "triangle of death".The title of the novel thus refers to the journey from Copenhagen, to the city of Mahmudiyah, where journalist Alaa Kadhim was born and lived until 1991, when he fled Iraq after being sentenced to death by the Iraqi government for refusing to participate as an Iraqi soldier in the occupation of Kuwait, whereas he obtained political asylum and residence in Denmark.[3][4]

There is dispute that the tragedy of Iraq, as well as the bloodbaths that have occurred in Iraq's cities and streets since the advent of US occupying forces and the fall of the statue, has far outweighed the disaster's magnitude. However, we must recognize that there is a great deal of debate and disagreement over the origins of that tragedy. Many words and heated conversations have been exchanged in an attempt to determine the true source of the tragedy that Iraq and its children have endured. This prompted Iraqi writer Hussein Sakkaf, a Danish resident, to write and publish his novel in an attempt to identify the true causes of the emergence of the terrorism phenomenon in Iraq from the city of Mahmudiyah, which became a hot spot of terrorists who committed the most heinous crimes within its periphery after it was a city whose sons were interested in culture, art, and literature. Which provided the Iraqi cultural and artistic movement with many of its members. The novel Copenhagen-Triangle of Death is the first to address the Iraqi crisis after the entry and occupation of Iraq by US forces, a circumstance that has upended Iraq's and Iraqis' lives into disarray. Iraq was living through a nightmare of slaughter and looting caused by the United States occupation and the absence of power, a situation that went far beyond the tragic or catastrophic phase, at a time when it was suffering from the dictatorship's injustice and coercion, the proliferation of its prisons and detention facilities, the scene of executions and mass graves. The novel revealed an important fact: terrorism and crimes against humanity were now occurring in Iraq as a natural result of all planned terrorist activities, the promulgation of unjust laws, and the sabotage of Iraq's simple spirit by the ephemeral dictatorial Government, which practiced thoughtful methods through wars, prisons, intimidation, and the strict application of laws, as well as the transformation of productive sectors of society into consumers by introducing them to security service.[1]
