Craig Reynolds is a drummer and podcaster from Reading, England. He is the current drummer for Stray From The Path, which he joined in 2016,[1] and the host of The Downbeat Podcast.[2]

Craig began his drumming career at the age of 17 and began studying at the Academy Of Contemporary Music at the same time where he achieved an Upper Second Class Honours Degree in Contemporary Music studying under Pete Riley, Mike Sturgis and Bill Bruford.[3]

His first paid job as a session musician was a tour of China in 2005 where he filled in for Jason Bowld of Pitchshifter.[4] After Viatrophy disbanded in 2011 Craig started The HAARP Machine with guitarist Al Mu'min but left in 2012 after recording the band's first album Disclosure[5] which he also produced and engineered.[6][7]

Craig has previously joined Josh Middleton (of Architects) for two albums, Hollowed-Out Planetoid[8] and a project named Passages[9]. It is not known if the two have plans to tour these albums.

Despite being predominantly a metal drummer Craig has stated that drummers such as Dave Weckl have influenced his playing.[10]

In September 2018 Craig performed his first drum clinic at the prestigious UK Drum Show, in the Mike Dolbear room.[11]

In November 2018 Craig was named 4th in the list of Best Metal Drummers In The World in the Music Radar / Rhythm Magazines awards.[12]

Stray From The Path[edit]

When original drummer Dan Bourke left, Craig joined Stray From The Path in 2016.[1]

On September 8th 2017,[13] the band released Craig's first album with the band: Only Death Is Real, it was subsequently listed as number 49 in Kerrang Magazine's top albums of 2017[14] and was followed by Internal Atomics on November 1st 2019[15]

The band was forced to pull out of the 2021 Slam Dunk Festival when Reynolds fractured his back in an accident.[16]

In December 2021, Reynolds revealed that the band was heading into the studio to record a new album, suggesting the successful healing of his injury.[17]

The Downbeat Podcast[edit]

Upon the repurposing of their Knotfest website in May 2020, Slipknot announced The Downbeat Podcast was to have a new home on the platform[18], launching with an episode featuring Slipknot bassist Alessandro Ventruella[19]. The podcast has since had guests such as Jordan Fish[20] (Bring Me The Horizon), Sam Carter[21] (Architects) and Matt Heafy[22] (Trivium).

The Downbeat was nominated for Best Podcast[23] at the Heavy Music Awards, which it won[24][25]
