Ikechukwu Sunday Okonkwo // (About this soundlisten) (born 8 July 1990), popularly known as Cross, is a Nigerian reality television actor and entrepreneur.[1] He was the 3rd runner up on season 6 of Big Brother Naija and the son of the late Ezego.[2]

Background and family[edit]

Cross was born in Kano state, Nigeria.[1] He is from Oba, Idemili South in Anambra state. He is the son of Ezego.[3] He has two sisters and four brothers. Following the death of his father, his family had to seek asylum overseas as a result of the trauma surrounding his death.[4][5] His mother, Uju Grace Okonkwo, is an Evangelist and pastor based at the Holy Ghost School Training Program in Canada.[6]

Controversies[edit]

Leaked nudes[edit]

Cross' nude video was leaked on social media platform Snapchat by his official account. He claimed it was unintentional, being that he had been away from his gadgets locked in the Big Brother Nigeria house for long, he wasn't used to the new interface of the app and that led to him posting the picture unintentionally to the public.[7][8] However he suffered backlash from the public, as a lot of people believed he posted it on purpose as a publicity stunt as had become a norm for celebrities like Tiwa Savage, MC Galaxy during this period to post nudes and claim they were ignorant about the leaks.[9] Cross also stated that having to face his mother following the nude leak, was one of the worst feelings of his life.[10]

Arrest in South Africa[edit]

Cross was arrested in South Africa for violating curfew during a vacation in 2021. He was arrested by the African police in Soweto. He told the police that his name was Siyabonga, which is a South African name which was given to him by his South African fans. For that reason, he was released on the same night.[11][12][13]

Big Brother Nigeria[edit]

Cross entered the 6th season of Big Brother Naija as the eleventh contestant to come into the house on 24 July 2021.[14][15][16] He was the third runner up.[17] He shared a close friendship with fellow housemate Angel while he was in the house.[18] Cross Okonkwo was seen as one of the contestants that could have given Whitemoney stern competition in winning the Season 6 edition of the show.[19]

Entrepreneurship[edit]

Cross is owner of the Cross View Hotel in Owerri, Imo state and a co-owner of Gemhouse restaurant, Abuja. He is also the MD of Cross Fitness Nutrition and also has his fitness products.[5] He is also a crypto investor and enthusiast, heading into crypto trading in 2015 and then into NFTs and the metaverse in 2021.[20]

He is single and has dyslexia.[22][23] He gave his support to Atiku Abubakar for president in the 2023 Nigerian general election; he suffered backlash from the youths for his choice of candidate.[24] He later went on to pay a courtesy visit to Atiku in Lagos.[25][26] He shares a very close relationship with his mother.[27][28] He has also maintained a good relationship with alot of BBNaija housemates, even after the show.[29][30][31][32]
