Crusty's, is a Singaporean food manufacturer with a selection of ready-to-eat gourmet snacks such as fish skin, potato chips and soy-based snacks. Snacks are manufactured in Singapore and distribute their products in many other countries also.[1]

History[edit]

Crusty’s was founded in 2016, by three childhood friends, Kenny Ng, Melvin Wong and Teo Woo Yang. Despite being from different backgrounds, the trio shared the same passion for food. They decided to do a business together to create a brand of salted egg yolk fish skin snacks for retail, and their aim was to have it look and taste like they were freshly cooked.[2] [3]Their early days were spent producing the snacks at home and reinvested back all the profit into their business to scale their manufacturing facilities. During the research and development, they discovered the sheer number of intricacies involved in not just cooking up a great batch of salted egg fish skin snacks but packaging it in a way that it could last for a long time and yet taste as fresh. Once they had hit upon the right formula, they got creative and started experimenting with flavours that were on-trend in Singapore. [3][4] Now, they are considered among the best 5 salted egg fish skin snacks in Singapore. [5][6]

Products[edit]

Known for its salted egg fish skin, Crusty’s explored different flavours and has since expanded the range of snacks;[2][7]

Soy Skin[edit]

At Crusty’s factory, the soy skin crisps are first fried and then coated in the signature sauce, made from scratch with whole salted egg yolks.[8]

Fish Skin[edit]

The skin is fried twice to achieve maximum lightness and crunch, also helpful to get rid of fishy smell. [5]

Potato Chips[9][edit]

  • Salted egg
  • Mala
  • Truffle
  • Tomato

Popcorn[9][edit]

Distribution[edit]

Their early days were spent renting pushcarts in malls to peddle their wares. Rising their business to a bigger scale, its products have since been available locally across supermarket chains, convenience stores, major petrol kiosks and cinemas;[4]

  • Flagship store: Trengganu Street, Chinatown, F&B 06 [7][3][4]
  • Retail stores e.g. Golden Village, NTUC FairPrice, Watson’s, Sheng Siong, and Cheers[7][3][13][5][16]
  • Petrol Stations/kiosks e.g. Shell, SPC, Caltex, and Esso [5][16]
  • Online stores e.g. Amazon, Ezbuy, Qoo10, RedMart and Shopee [7][16]

Also exporting to overseas like Australia, Canada, the United States of America, Thailand, Malaysia, China, Taiwan, Brunei, Cambodia, Myanmar, Indonesia and the even Maldives. [17][4]

Milestones[edit]

Neo Group is acquiring a 51 per cent stake in local snack manufacturer Royale International Food Industries (RIFI) for $1.02 million, to expand the premium snack market for the food manufacturing business.[18] [18] RIFI is principally engaged in the manufacture of snacks under its flagship brand, Crusty's, [17][4] The proposed acquisition is being carried out via Thong Siek Global, the wholly-owned subsidiary Neo Group Limited. [17][18][19]
