The Foundation Kulturfonds of the new federal states was founded in 1990 as the successor of the former Kulturfond of the GDR after the German reunification in 1990 and dissolved in March 2006.[1]
It was one of the countries the accession area worn Foundation of public law[1] with the purpose, the cultural life in the accession countries (Brandenburg, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, Thuringia) and Berlin materially hedge at least for a transitional period. The funding of the foundation consisted in the granting of working scholarships in the fields of fine arts, Performing Arts, Fotografie, Film / video, literature and music. In addition, project scholarships were awarded as well as residence scholarships for the artist houses Lukas in Ahrenshoop and Künstlerhaus Schloss Wiepersdorf.
In 1998, the Free State of Saxony, unilaterally, announced the state treaty concluded in the founding of the Foundation Kulturfonds, taking account of the share of foundations in this contract to all participating countries. At the end of 2004, this example followed the countries Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia. As a result of the associated capital loss, the Foundation Kulturfonds had to go to liquidation.
The Commissioner of the Federal Government for Culture and Media (Vulgo Cultural State Minister) Christina Weiss proposed in April 2003 to bring together three cultural foundations (Cultural Foundation of the Confederation, Cultural Foundation of the Countries, Foundation Kulturfonds) and a German Cultural Foundation.[3] The then Prime Minister Edmund Stoiber prevented the cultural foundation.
