Cumulative Layout Shift

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS)[1] is a performance metric introduced in 2020 by Lighthouse to measure the perceived visual stability of a web page load[2][3]. CLS measures the unexpected shifting of web elements while the page is being rendered. Shifting may cause an upside or downside of the page, leading to a bad user experience.

Mostly, CLS is caused by unexpected DOM loads inside a web page, such as ads and videos.

Now, CLS is considered a major factor to decide search ranking of a page in Google Search[4]
