Johnathan Yesson (born 11 October 1989), better known mononymously as DJ JY, is an English rapper from Bermondsey, South East London, England.

Career[edit]

Yesson started Music at a young age and has since then created many singles and published them to iTunes and YouTube under his stage name DJ JY.[2]

In 2014 his track "Kesha Wif The Fatty (Drippin x Slick Shoota Edit)" was placed in rotation nationally by the radio stations BBC Radio 1Xtra and BBC Radio 1 on the "Diplo and Friends" programme.[3][not in citation given][4][not in citation given][5][better source needed]

Early life[edit]

He was born on October 11, 1989.[6] Johnathan attended Bacon's College and in his younger years Johnathan was a footballer, but in the end he abandoned his sporting ambitions in favour of a musical career.[7]

Social media[edit]

Johnathan uses his social media channels to promote his music.[8] He has been the victim of impersonation issues on Twitter.[9] DJ JY is also an Ambassador/Director and Spokesman for a non-profit organisation "R.I.S.E. & Stand" which is managed by various celebrities.[10] DJ JY's tweets often are included in online news sources, in particular he is a known England football team supporter. Musical career[edit]

Johnathan signed with RMG Label[14] on November 1, 2015. His first professionally recorded solo track was "The Way Forward",[15] produced in 2015, in which he announced the title of his forthcoming EP "The Way Forward - EP" which is to be released early 2016.

He released "The Beginning EP" in 2015 which is compiled of his earlier unreleased homemade recordings. His mixes have been played on BBC radio and MTV. He is also noted for paying tribute to a deceased fan at his funeral.[16]
