Jeff Garfield (born February 11,1986), better known by his stage name DJ Gee[1], is a Canadian DJ, Turntablist and Producer. He is currently signed to YG Records and DJGEETV. He has done it all as a scratch artist, turntablist, and producer, learning alongside famous artists and innovators of the turntables like DJ Z Trip, Skratch Bastid, DJ Jazzy Jeff, DJ Green Lantern, Shortkut, DJ Starting From Scratch, Rob Swift, Roc Raida, Craze, A-Trak, DJ AM, DJ Khaled, Questlove, Jam Master Jay, Mix Master Mike, DJ Qbert, and his Thudrumble family, ISpiklZ, BeatJunkies and more.
Early Life[edit]
DJ Gee was born and raised in Hamilton Ontario Canada, where he graduated from Saint John The Baptist Middle School and from Bishop Ryan Catholic Secondary School[2]. He looked up to the late DJ AM which is one of his favourite. He has also worked with some very well known local and International Artist “Rick Ross” and DJs, as well as his instructor DJ Grouch (ScratchLab) and DJ Sara Simms who he learned from in Toronto Ontario[3].
He's musical knowledge also has formal roots, he attended "Recording Arts Canada" a private college in downtown Toronto Ontario. Scratchlab in Toronto Ontario. He learned Online at Qbert Skratch University and Beat Junkies Institute Of Sound. Today, he specializes in Beats, Mixing & Scratching, Music Production, Events, Promo and more. GEE is also CEO of DJGEETV his brand and label launched in 07 his network is far reaching, including many familiar names in the industry.
DJ GEE is a former Online Champion of the Qbert Skratch University (QSU) Valedictorian Skratch Online Winner for His Class in (2010 - 2011)
Career[edit]
DJ GEE has been mixing it down since 08-09's after being able to get his hand on some equipment.
In late 09 he had been going to "Scratchlab" in "Toronto" and learning from other local DJ's and online. He has always had a love for music, At age 14 he began taking guitar lessons in his neighborhood and would play on the drums at young age with his Father being a drummer in a local band and his brother a guitarist. Living with just his Mother after his Step Father past away from cancer in 96' and not having much to fall back on with his personal life. Gee started to focus his time more towards his goal of becoming a successful Deejay/Producer/Skratch Artist. In late 09 he had quickly started getting his ideas and what he knows (online) and in and around his city.
With the success of his first YouTube channel and having made a few videos here and there he had gained 250 subscribers and over 35,000 Channel Views before the Channel was shut down by YouTube due to copyright issues. Mostly mixing Top40/Hip Hop/Old School Rap/Rock/Dubstep/Country. He is very adaptable to mixing all kinds of genre's along with using the turntables as an instrument learning from watching the master and late great DJ AM through just about every AM video online along with many others who have paved the way in this great art form!
DJ GEE spends countless hours online practicing/learning from the games best, His Mentor and Scratch Icon "DJ QBERT" who he was able to meet. In his hometown he has been able to work and learn from some of the biggest names to do it numerous hip hop artist as well.
