Dairyland is a brand of auto, motorcycle, and off-road vehicle insurance principally located in Middleton, Wisconsin. Dairyland brand products are underwritten by a member of the Sentry Insurance group[1] and sold in the contiguous United States. Founded in 1953, Dairyland originally sold nonstandard auto insurance exclusively until 1966 when it began offering motorcycle insurance.[2]

History[edit]

Dairyland was founded in 1953 by University of Wisconsin–Madison professor Stuart Struck. The company initially sold nonstandard auto insurance—insurance for drivers who don't qualify for standard insurance coverage due to little driving experience, no prior insurance, less-than-perfect credit history, or blemished driving records.[3]

In 1966, Dairyland was acquired by Sentry Insurance and added motorcycle insurance to its product line.[4]

Sentry acquired Viking Insurance in 2005 and expanded Dairyland, doubling the size of the brand's nonstandard auto insurance presence.[5]

In 2016, Dairyland created National Motorcycle Day to celebrate 50 years of selling motorcycle insurance.[6] The holiday takes place the second Friday of July each year and celebrates the freedom and sense of adventure motorcycle riders enjoy. It also recognizes riders who give back to their community and encourages others to get involved.

In February 2021, Dairyland began offering off-road vehicle insurance, including coverage for ATVs, UTVs, dirt bikes, and snowmobiles.[7]

Products[edit]

Dairyland offers nonstandard auto insurance (including SR-22s), motorcycle insurance, scooter/moped insurance, ATV/UTV insurance, dirt bike insurance, and snowmobile insurance.

Corporate Sponsorship[edit]

Since the team's launch in 2019, Dairyland has been a sponsor of Madison, Wisconsin's, soccer team, Forward Madison FC (FMFC). The team's jerseys feature the Dairyland logo across the front. Dairyland and FMFC signed a three-year extension in 2022.[8]

Corporate Philanthropy[edit]

Dairyland supports a variety of nonprofit organizations through partnerships and donations.

Arbor Day Foundation partnership

In 2020, Dairyland began a partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation to plant trees and restore forests across the U.S. For each Dairyland customer who signs up for paperless billing, the Arbor Day Foundation plants a tree. More than 72,000 trees were planted thanks to the initiative in 2020,[9] and over 95,000 were planted in 2021.[10]

Coaches vs. Cancer

Dairyland was a sponsor of the American Cancer Society’s Coaches vs. Cancer Wisconsin Gala in 2022.[11] Coaches vs. Cancer, in collaboration with the National Association of Basketball Coaches, raises funds to support the American Cancer Society and the fight against cancer.
