Abraham Oladimeji Olaleye (born 11 June, 1989), known professionally as Daramola, is a Nigerian singer, songwriter, and music producer. He released his debut album "The Last Time I Tried" in 2017. The album features the standout song "Lotto"[1] which was very well received on popular radio stations and in the growing alternative music scene in Nigeria. In addition to being an artist, Daramola has also worked behind the scenes as a music producer, and songwriter for artists such as; Lecrae, Tainy, Dylan Fuentes, and many more.
Early Life[edit]
Daramola was born on June 11, 1989, in Lagos, Nigeria. The second of 5 children, he grew up in a Christian home and one filled with music. His mother Gbemi Olaleye is a seasoned vet in the Nigerian Gospel Music industry courtesy of her affiliation to Highlife music crooner Ebenezer Obey and her mid 90's hit record Leta Ayo, a song that became the household number in the Yoruba speaking parts of the country. This environment was key in Daramola's development of a taste in music[2]. Between 2004 and 2005, Daramola and his family moved to the United Kingdom, and back to Nigeria, a time in his life that he would be exposed to sounds other than what he grew up listening to in Lagos. A Year and a half later Daramola was on his way to study his Bachelor and Masters degrees in the United States, a place he would eventually call home.
Career[edit]
While in college, Daramola caught the ear of Grammy Award Winning Rapper Lecrae, and a myriad of other artists within the emerging Christian Hip Hop music space. He won a GMA Dove Award for his production Lecrae's 2011 album, Rehab: The Overdose. in 2019 Daramola released his sophomore album "It's a Double Pleasure to Deceive the Deceiver"[3]. In 2020 Daramola was featured on Spotify's music series "How They Made It[4]" alongside frequent collaborator DJ ShiShi. He was also the main feature on "Strange Without You"[5], the third single on German DJ and Producer, Tensnake's sophomore album, which was released on Armada Records.
