Darryl Granberry, Jr. was born in Pontiac, Michigan. He attended International Tech Academy, where he was class valedictorian.[3] After high school, Darryl enrolled at Central Michigan University, where he later dropped out for what he says was making $30,000 per month as a Youtuber.[4][5] After dropping out of Central Michigan, Darryl moved to Hollywood, California to be a full time entertainer.[6]

Early Career as Independent Artist
DDG always had an interest in music and started making music as a young child in the studio where his father was an engineer. However, it was not until DDG started posting freestyle vlog videos and diss tracks did the world know of his musical talent. His most famous diss track was on Lil Yachty, which was called, "Big Boat". Big Boat went viral on DDG's Youtube channel and has received over 12 million views.[7] The song's popularity caused Lil Yachty to set the record straight on Instagram that he did not have any "beef" with DDG.[8] The fact that people liked his song so much caused DDG to want to explore music more seriously.
DDG released two songs in 2016 entitled, Balenciagas and Free Parties, both produced by Zaytoven. The songs were both well received in the Youtube community but not well known in the general music community. At the urging of his managers, Eric O'Connor and Dimitri Hurt, he got a prominent featured artist on a song and teamed up with Famous Dex for a song entitled, "Lettuce". The track was initially released on DDG's Youtube channel and had 500,000 views in 1 hour causing WorldstarHipHop to contact DDG to allow them to exclusively release the video.[9] Within a few days after the video's release, DDG had emails from 5 major record labels.[10] Now that DDG had the music industry’s attention, he decided to make a song entitled “Take Me Serious” which demanded that the music industry take him seriously as a musician and not see him as just a Youtuber making music as a hobby. In June of 2018, DDG inked a multi-million dollar record deal with Epic Records.[11]
On November 23, 2017, DDG released his hit single, "Givenchy". The song was released on Worldstar's Youtube channel. The song has received over 24 million views[12]and has over 14 million streams on Spotify.[13] The song earned DDG his first mainstream coverage with Genius[14], and Mass Appeal[15]. Complex identified "Givenchy" as a song "Bout to Blow in 2018".[16]
DDG signs with Epic Records
In June 2018, DDG signed a joint venture agreement with Epic Records. As part of the agreement, DDG owns his own masters.[17]
Youtube career
DDG is one of the most prominent African-Americans on Youtube.[18] His Youtube videos have amassed over 835 million views since 2014 and collectively his 4 Youtube channels have 7.8 million subscribers[19]
Personal life
DDG currently lives in Los Angeles. His Mother, brother, sister, and nephew have all become prominent Youtube personalities.
