David John Carlson
David John Carlson, a behaviourist and strategic advisor was born in Mt Lawley Western Australia in 1957. After spending his early years in country Western Australia, he moved to Perth, where he lives to this day.
Education and Career[edit]
Educated at the University of Western Australia John Was awarded a BA (Hons) in psychology (1980) and a Post Graduate Diploma in Education (1981). He later studied business and completed a Fellowship in Medical Hypnosis. Following the completion of his thesis, John published:

John’s career started at Mental Health Services and the University Department of Psychiatry (1982) where he co-authored a number of papers, including:

Moving into business, John became an executive Director of The Marketing Centre (1981 – 1992) . At the time, The Marketing Centre was the largest marketing consultancy in Western Australia. In 1989, he established marketing and communication agency Jung Lautrec and Shaw (Managing Director), which, over a period of 12 and a series of acquisitions became Linc Integrated at national advertising agency and strategic advisor. In 2013 John co-founded Picasso Capital Management (Deputy Chairman) a business investing in e-commerce and online communities, establishing:

In 2016 John established D. John Carlson Strategic Advisory (Principle), consulting, speaking and writing on consumer behaviour management, branding, marketing and communication.
John developed the industry standard branding model – the Brand-Culture Continuum – a model for building a sustainable brand without advertising.

In 2019. He was appointed – Director Water Purified, Director Rangelands-NRM and Chair DA Australia.
Johns charitable involvements have included – Director Save the Children Fund (1996 – 1998), Deputy Chair – Meerinlinga Young Children’s Foundation (1996 – 1999), Deputy Chair United Way WA (1996 – 2005), Deputy Chair – United Way Australia (1997 – 2007), Member - United Way International Board of trustees (2004), Director Prostate Foundation of Australia (WA) 2009 – 2011), Director Community Vision (2016 0 2019) and Director - Foodbank WA (2014 -present). He won the:
- United Way - International Volunteer and Donor of the Year - 2002
Johns community roles have included – Councillor Celebrate WA (2004 – 2006), Director - Rotary Club of Perth (1998 – 1999), Communication Director Rotary District 9445 (2012 – 2013), Chair – Days of Change (2009 – 2013), Deputy Chair – North bridge Business Association (2013 – 2017), Chair – Edith Cowan University marketing consultative committee (2014 – 2016), Director – Perth Theatre Company (2013 – 2016), Vice President – Western Australian Club (2016 – 2017). He was awarded a:
- Paul Harris Fellow – Rotary (2004)
