David Leonard (born 24 May 1955) is an American guitarist, singer and songwriter who was also part owner of a lobster restaurant in New York.

Early life and restaurant career[edit]

Born in Manhattan, Leonard spent childhood summers in Maine and for two years operated a lobster shack in Kennebunkport, 2 Dock Square. He then moved the business to New York, where he co-owned it with Brian Woods and later a third owner. Renamed Black Pearl, it was housed in the rear of an East Village bar, Julep.[1][2] and his spat with Gordon Ramsay on the reality TV show, Kitchen Nightmares. The restaurant relocated to Chelsea[3] and closed in October 2008, just four days after being featured on Gordon Ramsay's TV show Kitchen Nightmares.[4][5][6] Leonard posted a statement online accusing Ramsay of causing a 50% drop in sales, made worse by the episode airing months later than promised.[3][4]

Performing career[edit]

Leonard has been a session guitarist and a member of Richard Lloyd's touring band.[7] On August 16, 2010, he released a collection of his solo work, The Quickening, on a private label. It includes seven original compositions and a song co-written with Lloyd, plus covers of Beatles, Dylan and Roky Erickson songs. There are guest appearances by Chris Spedding and Rick Derringer.[7]

Discography[edit]

Publications[edit]

An avid sailor and scuba diver, Leonard is the author of Diving the Western Pacific, Vol. 1.[8]
