David Joseph "Joey" Pedersen and Holly Ann Grigsby are an American white supremacist duo responsible for murdering four people during a 10-day crime spree in 2011.

Pedersen spent his early childhood in Camp Pendleton, California, where his father, David Jones "Red" Pedersen, was a sergeant for the United States Marine Corps.

At the age of 13, Joey Pedersen enrolled in North Salem High School and moved in with his mom in Salem.

While incarcerated at Oregon State Penitentiary, Pedersen and his friends formed the Aryan Soldiers, a white supremacist prison gang that had been inspired by the notorious Silent Brotherhood. In terms of extremism, the Aryan Soldiers group was regarded by corrections staff as being especially more radical than other white supremacist prison gangs. According to a former member of the gang, its goal was to recruit prisoners that would operate on the outside of prison walls in an effort to continue where the Silent Brotherhood had left off in 1984. Pedersen would also become affiliated with other racist Security Threat Groups during his prison tenure including Aryan Death Squad and Supreme White Power.

Pedersen was later transferred to ADX Florence after he had written threatening letters to Edward Lodge, a U.S. District Court Judge who presided over the trial of white separatist Randy Weaver.

After being paroled in May of 2011, Joey Pedersen pursued a career as a mixed martial arts fighter.

Holly Ann Grigsby was born on January 13, 1987 and grew up in Portland, Oregon.

Grigsby took on white supremacist beliefs at the age of 13, after she had become acquainted with some white power skinheads. Throughout her following teenage years, Grigsby started acting rebellious and began using heroin as well as meth.

Prior to the killing spree, Grigsby had spent time in prison for a variety of charges beginning in 2006, including identity theft and unauthorized use of a vehicle. After completing probation, she was again sentenced in 2008 on identity theft charges and ended up serving a total of two years.

Holly had first been introduced to Joey Pedersen while living in an Southeast Portland apartment with Larson and a child she had with him.

10-day rampage

Sometime before the crime spree, Corey Eugene Wyatt and his wife, Kimberly Scott Wyatt, purchased a 9mm pistol for David Pedersen. This gun would eventually be used in the killings.

Red took the couple to a nearby bus station in his 2010 Jeep Patriot. While en route, Pedersen shot Red in the back of his head while the elder Pedersen was driving. Red Pedersen moved and moaned for at least 30 minutes before dying. The couple then took the vehicle and returned to the home of Red and Dee Dee Pedersen, where Grigsby proceeded to slit Dee Dee's throat with dull knives, and left her to die. The pair then took Red's Jeep and traveled south, eventually ending up at the Oregon Coast.

While in Oregon, the two came across Cody Myers, a 19-year-old boy from Lafayette who was on his way to the Newport Jazz Festival. Pedersen gunned down Myers, believing he was Jewish - when, in fact, Myers was actually a devout Christian. After murdering Cody Myers, the couple dumped his body in the woods and headed for Northern California.

Driving Myers' vehicle, David Pedersen and Holly Grigsby made their way to Eureka, California on the 4th of October. Around approximately 10:00 PM, they stopped at a at a WinCo Foods store to pick out their next victim. It was here that Holly Grigsby crossed paths with a 53 year-old African-American customer named Reginald Alan "Reggie" Clark. Clark, a struggling _________, was approached by Grigsby and lured back to his truck - where he was shot dead by David Pedersen.

On the following day, Pedersen and Grigsby were approached by the California Highway Patrol just outside Yuba City. While searching the possessions of the two, investigators discovered the wallet of Red Pedersen, as well as a list of phone numbers and addresses of Jewish organizations in Portland - indicating that they both would have continued the killing spree had they not been caught. Grigsby would later tell police that she and Pedersen had been heading to Sacramento, to "kill more Jews".

Motive

The crime had apparently been planned for a total of four years beforehand.

Joey Pedersen went public with the allegations after his arrest, claiming that Red Pedersen had sexually abused his children and others decades before the crime. His sister, believed to have been molested by Red as a child, later confirmed to the media that the abuse did occur. Holly Grigsby maintained that Dee Dee was killed because she had known about the molestation years before and done nothing. According to Snohomish County Prosecutor Mark Roe, however, Dee Dee Pedersen had not been married to Red Pederson at the time of the alleged child abuse and was in no position to prevent or even know about it.

The murders subsequent to Red and Dee Dee had been mission-oriented. They selected their targets on the basis of race, skin color, and religion. During his trial, Joey Pedersen told the court that he could not sit by while “western identity is being destroyed” by other cultures.

Holly Grigsby informed the press that she had been the one to kill Dee Dee Pedersen due to the common white supremacist belief that men should not murder women.

Pedersen also made a lengthy statement to the court during his trial, where he criticized police, prosecutors and American foreign policy.

Public response

The spree drew national media attention, especially after Grigsby told California detectives that she and Pedersen had been heading to Sacramento to kill Jews.

Oregon county sheriff’s captain condemned the actions of David Pedersen and Holly Grigsby, referring to the incident as a “vicious, vile reign of terror”.

The crimes also seemingly led to a crackdown on neo-Nazi and white power skinhead gangs.

Trial and sentencing

Holly Grigsby was sentenced to life in prison without parole on July 15, 2014.

David "Joey" Pedersen was sentenced to a grand total of four life sentences.
