David Simchi-Levi is Professor of Engineering Systems at Massachusetts Institute of Technology.[1] He is also the founder/co-founder of LogicTools, a software company; OPS Rules, an operations analytics consulting company; and Opalytics, a cloud analytics platform.[2][3] Simchi-Levi has made significant contributions to the fields of supply chain, revenue management,[4] and business analytics.[5][6] He is known for his emphasis on the interface of theory and practice.[7][8]
He co-authored the book Designing & Managing the Supply Chain, the winner of the Book-of-the-Year Award and Outstanding IIE Publication Award given in 2000 by the Institute of Industrial Engineers, and winner of the Outstanding First Edition of the Year Award given in 2000 by McGraw-Hill/Irwin.[9] It has been translated into many languages.[10] He is the current Editor-in-Chief of Management Science,[11] one of the two flagship journals of INFORMS.[12] He served as the Editor-in-Chief for Operations Research (2006-2012),[13] the other flagship journal of INFORMS.[14]
Education and career
David Simchi-Levi obtained his B.Sc. in Aeronautical Engineering at Technion Israel Institute of Technology in 1978 and earned M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Operations Research from Faculty of Management at Tel-Aviv University respectively in 1984 and 1987.[15]
He has been a lecturer in Tel-Aviv University (1984-9885) and Columbia University(1986-1987). He became an assistant professor in the Department of Industrial Engineering and Operations Research in Columbia University (1987-1991) and obtained tenure in 1991. Then he joined Northwestern University in 1993 as an associate professor in the Department of Industrial Engineering and Management Sciences, and was promoted to full professor in 1997. Now he is a professor in Massachusetts Institute of Technology (2000-now).[15] He was a co-director of Leaders for Global Operations (2003-2016), a unique dual degree program delivered by MIT,[16] and a co-director of Systems Design and Management (2003-2010).[17]

Enterprenuership
David Simchi-Levi was the founder of LogicTools which provided software solutions and professional services for supply chain optimization.[20] The network design, inventory optimization, and transportation planning products are widely used by leading companies. LogicTools was acquired by ILOG in 2007 and became part of IBM in 2009. The LogicTools software products are currently supported by Llamasoft.[21]
In 2012, he co-founded OPS Rules, an operations analytics consulting company. The company worked on cutting edge projects for major industrial and internet companies. OPS Rules became part of Accenture Analytics in 2016.[22]
In 2014, he co-founded Opalytics, a cloud analytics platform company focusing on operations and supply chain intelligence. The platform provided an easy way to launch analytics and create applications.[23][24] The company became part of Accenture Applied Intelligence in 2018.
