David Vandyck (born 12 September 1978) is a Belgian singer-songwriter from Waregem.

Career[edit]

In 2007, Vandyck released his first CD single, "Viva la Fiësta". However, he did not score his first hit until 2011, when he was listed in the Ultratop 50 for four weeks with his song "Een superlange nacht". Afterwards Vandyck closed a deal with the music label Vlaamse sterren, owned by CNR Records. Together with Chris Van Roosendaal and Leo Caerts, he wrote the song "Met heel mijn hart", which provided him his first number-one hit on the Flemish Ultratop 50 near the end of 2011. His debut album Dichtbij was a success as well and was awarded with a gold record.

In 2013, his second album Zolang het liefde is was published and came third on the Flemish Ultratop albums chart. Multiple songs from the record (like "Meisje van m’n dromen" and "Een glas koele wijn") were released as singles and became hits on the Flemish Ultratop 50. In February 2014, Vandyck underwent a voice operation that obligated him to take a period of rest. Later that year, he recorded a successful duet with Corrie Konings, titled "Waar jij ook gaat".

In 2015, David decided to dedicate his next record to his personal hero, Will Tura. He published a tribute album (David Vandyck sings Will Tura), which charted on the Flemish album list for 32 weeks. During that time, Vandyck was performing a lot, which spurred the recording of his live album Live In concert in the autumn of 2016 (also released on DVD). The album came in at number one on the Belgian Ultratop albums chart.

At the end of 2016, Vandyck recorded a Christmas duet with Koen Crucke called "Jingle Bell Rock". In 2018 another single followed, called "Ik leef voor jou", a song that Vandyck wrote for his wife Isabelle. With this song he scored a hit on the Ultratop 50 and was nominated for the Radio 2 Zomerhit award for the first time since 2011. The single was a precursor to his fourth studio album, the self-titled David Vandyck, for which he collaborated with the Dutch composer and producer Gordon Groothedde. The album placed second on the Flemish album chart. In total, four singles were released from this album: "Om Je Heen", "Weer Even Klein", "Beiregoe" and the Thomas Berge-featuring "Heel Alleen".

The album marked his first Benelux release as Ik Leef Voor Jou was also released in the Netherlands. The track was selected for Paradeplaat at Sterren.nl and AVROTROS.

In 2020 David started working on music again with Dutch producer Gordon Groothedde, with whom he had done his previous album. In April 2021 he released the first single from the album, "Ik Weet Nu Beter", which was written by Jasper Steverlinck and Gordon Groothedde. This single was followed by "Zee Van Vuur".
