Biography[edit]

David Votre Chazam is a french underground music artist and showman. In the "mid-eighties" he started as a teenager showman in his hometown Poitiers, France. He would play there in the industrial music band "Les Lookooms Vengeurs", would also sing and play solo organ and be the singer of trio "Commercial concert" interpreting live the music the Commercial Album of The Residents with Madjic (piano) and Dominique Pichon.[1] (Guitare).
Meanwhile he would also broadcast some radio drama shows on several local channels.
In the "nineties" he would create with Olivier Spanky Popincourt a disco music band called "Tschack!" in Bordeaux, France[2]. With the guitar player Monsieur Gadou he would win in 1993 the "European improvisation music award" organised by le confort moderne[3] in Poitiers.
Meanwhile he would start to compose several theater shows soundtracks with directors Renaud Cojo[4], Gilbert Tiberghien and choreographer Valerie Riviere[5] Before 2000 he would start a collaboration with electronic music pioneer Jean Jacques Perrey. They would record "eclectronics" album and do some shows all over Europe including venue Le Batofar[6] in Paris, where Chazam was DJ-resident between 2000 and 2002.
Meanwhile Chazam would start to be sound assistant of contemporary artist Christian Boltanski and an active collaboration with choreographer Valerie Riviere. In the "years ten" he would move to Brussels, Belgium and started to develop his solo acts as well as "Monique Sonique" an electropunk combo. Meanwhile he would start to compose more movie tracks, and to be an actor onstage or in front of the camera.
The work of David Votre Chazam follows those peculiar pathes in many sides of the music, radio drama, staging, sound design in which he develops a singular vocabulary between pop and experimental music.
Chazam is also very often DJing, and is the booker of le Walvis a music club in Bruxelles since 2016. He started in 2016 a new form of participative dance event called "le grand choreoke" in which he's playing as a DJ and a VJ and making the audience dance following various dances on video-clips. He lives in Bruxelles [7] where he's a restless musical activist.

With Jean Jacques Perrey[8][edit]

The collaboration with Jean Jacques Perrey[9] started in 1995. David Chazam would write a letter to the electronic music pioneer proposing a new collaboration. The answer was "Where, when, how ?". They became very close friends at first meeting, Chazam becoming sort of a spiritual son of the composer. It was just before the come-back of the master on the musical scene all over the world. The album "Eclectronics"[10] was produced and recorded at Chazam's personal studio and was first released by Basenautic label in paris in 1996.

CD issue was done in 1998 by Basta records[11] label from Holland.
Together Jean Jacques Perrey and David Chazam made a lot of lectures and concerts in distinguished places and festivals :
"Klinkende munt" in Bruxelles/Belgium (1998), "Brigton bop festival" in UK (1998), Batofar in Paris France (2001), "Printemps de Bourges" France (2002), "IDEAL" « Le Lieu unique » in Nantes France (2003), "Today's arts[12]" in Den Haag Holland (2006), "BBMIX[13]" in Boulogne France (2006)[14][15], SKIFF at "Kuryokhin Center" in St Petersburg Russia (2007)[16][17][18], LUFF[19] in Lausanne Switzerland (2008) The album "ELA"[20] was released in 2017 by label Freaksville of Belgium. It contains archives, unreleased demos and live acts.[21] It is the last album released while Jean Jacques was still alive. The master passed away in Lausanne , november 2017.
