David Yang (David Yan) (Armenian: Դավիթ Յան, Russian: Дави́д Ян, Chinese: 楊誠), born 1968, is an Armenian-born Silicon Valley / Russian business angel, serial entrepreneur, founder and Chairman of the board of ABBYY, in AI member of the board of advisors at FAST and member of the Band of Angels.
Early life[edit]
David Yang was born in 1968 in Yerevan, Armenia, to a Chinese father from Shanghai[1] and Armenian mother, both physicists. He spent his first 17 years in Armenia before enrolling in the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology. He graduated from its Department of General and Applied Physics in 1992, with a M.S. degree in Applied Mathematics and Physics.
ABBYY[edit]
In 1989, as a four-year student of the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, Yang founded his first company, Bit Software. His partner was Alexander Moskalev, a member of the Institute of Microelectronics Technology of Russian Academy of Science. In 1998 the company was renamed ABBYY.
ABBYY is an international company developing technologies in the fields of optical character recognition, intelligent character recognition, linguistics, and artificial intelligence.
Yva.ai[edit]
In 2016 Yang founded Santa Clara, CA based Yva.ai[2] - a real-time predictive analytics platform which provides insights that improve retention rate and business performance.
