Early life[edit]

Cho Yun-gyeong was born on April 20, 1998, in South Korea.[1] She emigrated to the United States in 2009 and spent her teenage years in Chicago. She started gaining attention when she uploaded her original tracks to SoundCloud.[2]

She adopted the stage name "DeVita" taking inspiration from the character "Salvatore Di Vita" of the movie Cinema Paradiso and Evita Perón, a former first lady of Argentina.[3]

Career[edit]

2018-present: Signing to AOMG and Creme[edit]

In 2018, DeVita released her debut single "Sugar" with rapper Ugly Duck. In 2020, she signed to hip-hop and R&B label AOMG and released her debut EP Creme.[4] Creme was nominated for R&B Album of the Year at the Korean Hip-hop Awards and its lead single "Evita!" was nominated for Best R&B Song at the Korean Music Awards and R&B Track of the Year at the Korean Hip-hop Awards.[5][6]

Artistry[edit]

DeVita mixes different music genres such as R&B, hip hop, jazz, and synth-pop.[7] She cited musicians Damon Albarn, Kanye West, and Frank Ocean as her biggest influence.[8]
