DealPly is a browser add-on that assists users during online shopping. As users browse the web, DealPly serves them shopping deals and coupons for the products they are searching for from different online stores with purportedly cheaper prices.[1] The add-on shows a widget on the websites that users browse and displays shopping offers, as they purchase items online.

The add-on is free to use and purportedly guarantees the lowest prices on the most popular retail sites.[2] The company earns money when its users click through to other shopping providers and purchase from them instead of from the website where they had previously been browsing. Dealply's platform has millions of users triggering hundreds of millions of such events per day.[3] Dealply provides offers including coupons, deals, rebates, and club discounts as the user shops online for comparable or complementary products and services. Featured vendors include: eBay, Club Med, Calvin Klein, Toys R Us, Amazon.com, Sears, Omega, Expedia and Macy's.

History[edit]

Founded in 2011, DealPly is a subsidiary of ironSource, a privately held company based in Tel Aviv. Named one of the '20 hottest startups' in Israel by BusinessInsider, ironSource provides downloadable applications including facets of user monetization, analytics, conversion, acquisition and optimization.[4] Since its foundation with two co-founders, the company has grown to over 50 employees .[citation needed]

Presence of Adware[edit]

In early versions, users complained that DealPly contained adware that tracked their actions in the browser.[5][6] The current version of DealPly purportedly does not contain adware or spyware, nor does it have any supplementary software bundled to it. Conversely, when DealPly is running, the add-on displays online ads that support the application. DealPly can be uninstalled with the provided uninstaller, but there is no guarantee that it has been completely removed.[citation needed]
