Deborah Tarr
Deborah Tarr (born 1966)[1] is a British painter who lives and works in Primrose Hill, London. Her works have been featured in numerous exhibitions and private collections in the United States and Britain.
Career[edit]
Education[edit]
Deborah Tarr was born in Manchester. She studied painting at Winchester School of Art, and graduated in 1988 with a BA in Fine Art.
Style[edit]
After leaving Winchester School of Art in 1988, Tarr had her first exhibition alongside David Atkins. For the catalogue, Royal Academician and teacher Vanessa Jackson described the work of her former student as “truly abstract paintings…that avoid any conceptual theory through their naturally exuberant but highly controlled expression[2]."
At present day within her highly developed visual language, Tarr explores the limits of her canvas; each painting is an authentic world of its own. Her creations are tangible and conceptual, borne of relationships between colour and texture [3].
Achievements[edit]
Deborah Tarr's work has made a significant impact in the private and public sectors of the art world in Britain and North America. Her work has been collected by premier interior design firms, including Louise Bradley Design, London [4].
Her works have been acquired by institutions such as the Ritz Carlton Residences in Chicago, to being recognised for their national importance in the Hampshire County Council, National Collections[5].
In addition to being in numerous international private collections, Tarr has exhibited in several solo exhibitions many around the concept of feminism, and abstract painting: Cadogan Contemporary, London (2004-2016), Core One, Chelsea Harbour (2000), Bruton Gallery, Bath and New York City (1995), Winchester Cathedral (1994), Alresford Gallery, Winchester (1991)[6].
Tarr has also exhibited at the Palm Beach Modern + Contemporary Fair [7] with Art Batison Gallery, Miami (2017) alongside internationally recognised multi-media artist, Chris Levine[8].
