Deby Medrez Pier
Deby Medrez Pier (born September 9, 1996) formerly known as Ziburta is a Mexican composer, vocalist and writer based in Mexico City. She is known for her innovative, melodramatic melodies presented in her solo project.[1] Deby performs her vocals accompanied by the ukulele, guitar, banjo, piano and sometimes percussion. Deby engages in live shows and performances with indie musicians throughout the United States, Mexico and the Middle East.[2]
Pier started out playing on her friends' couches in New York City. She later became popular in her hometown Mexico City, where she found underground crowds looking for folklore and versatility. Her melancholic tunes recall echoes of long-forgotten Comedian Harmonistes, Andrew Bird and Nino Rota. Her songs are dedicated to universal and philosophical questions about life, religion and identity.[3]
