Delta Psi Sigma (ΔΨΣ), is an American multicultural, inter-collegiate sorority founded on January 14, 2001. Commonly known as DYS or Deltas, the sorority has expanded to four chapters in New York, New Jersey, and Massachusetts.
History[edit]
Delta Psi Sigma was established in New York City, New York on January 14, 2001.[1][2] Its five founding sisters were Danna Chang, Kate Chen, Melissa D’Souza, Annie Park, and Michelle Tang.[1][2] These five founding sisters originated from Buffalo University, Hofstra University, Manhattan College, and New York University.[2] They wanted to establish a multicultural sorority that would bring together women of different cultural backgrounds.[2]
Delta Psi Sigma's purpose to "unite college women from various campuses to encourage, motivate academic achievement, cultural diversity, promote sisterhood, guidance, love and friendship amongst our sisters to provide service to our community."[3]
Symbols[edit]
Delta Psi Sigma's motto is "Perpetual Sisterhood Through Unity and Strength".[4] Its colors are imperial sky blue and white.[4][2] Its flower is the gladiolus.[4][2] The sorority's jewel is aquamarine and its mascot is the unicorn.[4][2] Its goals or pillars are Academics, Social Relations, Service, and Sisterhood.[4][5]
Philanthropy[edit]
Since the sorority's founding, Delta Psi Sigma Sorority’s national philanthropy has been March of Dimes.[6]
