Descom is a marketing and technology company who work with clients on creating sales, marketing, and customer service solutions.[1] Besides the head office in Jyväskylä, Descom is also located in Helsinki, Tampere, Espoo, Stockholm and Wroclaw.[1] According to the Deloitte Technology Fast 50 listing, Descom is the 14th fastest growing technology company in Finland with a revenue of almost 40 million euros.[2] Descom can count DNA, Metso and Moventas among their customers.[3] Furthermore, the company has implemented e-commerce services for Stockmann and Hobby Hall.

History[edit]

1990s[edit]

In 1997, Descom was founded by four students in Jyväskylä. Timo Aarnio, Jani Nurminen, Antti Paksuniemi and Kivikari Freyberg studied at the University of Jyväskylä and created study projects for large companies. The tight partnership with IBM brought the company work, because IBM recommended Descom to its customers [4][5]

The first office was opened in 1997 in Jyväskylä.

2000s[edit]

In 2007, Descom has increased to 46 employees.

In 2008, the company's turnover was slightly above 4 million euros.

In 2009, the company's turnover has increased by 38%. Together with 15 Finnish growth companies, Descom was granted by the government with an EU aid to hire highly qualified experts.

In August, private equity investor Sentica Partners merged Descom with Integware Ltd. Integware services are also based on IBM technology, but where Descom did portals and process integration, Integware delivered solutions for e-commerce and management, and control solutions. The new Descom aimed at market leadership in specific e-commerce solutions. Through the merger with Integware, Juha Harju became the new CEO of Descom, who was CEO of Integware before the merger.[6]

2010s[edit]

In 2010, Descom opened an office in Tampere, designed to grow it to a 50-person unit. In the Helsinki and Jyväskylä offices there were a total of 130 employees.

In October 2011, Descom doubles its size by buying Konehuone Oy and at the same time expanded its service offerings to server and data storage solution expertise.[5][7] Through the merger, the amount of Descom employees has increased to over 200. Furthermore, the company was ranked from position 104 to 57 in the list of the 250 largest companies in the IT industry.[8]

Awards[edit]

Descom has received the Jyväskylä Entrepreneur of the Year Award in January 2008.

In 2012, Descom was elected in Northern Europe for the Distinguished Business Achievement Award.[9]
