Dicko Kasongo is a Congolese politician who lost to the 2006 parliamentary election, under the umbrella of the People's Party for Reconstruction and Democracy (PPRD). Dicko moved to the United States with his family on 2009 as permanent residents. In America, he's well known as a guitarist. He ofter travels with Kadima's band, Rumba Africa.[1]
Politics[edit]
Since his youth, Dicko sympathized with the Union for Democracy and Social Progress (From French: Union pour la Démocratie et le Progrès Social, UDPS), the oldest Congolese political party.[2] Etienne Tshisekedi, the leader of the UDPS, had repeatedly called for a boycott of the constitutional referendum on 18–19 December as well.[3] Dicko disagreed with that call, disconnected then joined the of the People's Party for Reconstruction and Democracy (PPRD). On February 2006, Dicko failed to the legislature for the constituency of Katanda Territory. The PPRD initiator, President Kabila, appointed Professor Evarist Boshab as the new Secretary General to restructure his party just after the elections. To do so, Evarist Boshab appointed Dicko as Deputy Federal Secretary of PPRD / Kasai Oriental at the end of 2006. Dicko assumed this responsibility until his resignation in 2009 due to his move to the United States. Since 2012, Dicko has joined and represents the Congolese Alliance for Agriculture and Development in the United States.[4]
Musical career[edit]
Dicko is a self-taught guitarist who began playing the rhythm guitar at Bonne Nouvelle, a choir of the Protestant Church. From 1998 to 2004, he was bassist at Black Story, the Gouru Smalto Dizoïzo's orchestra. He is known for being first the first guitarist who backed up the apostle Debaba just after his Christian conversion. Also, several musicians have immortalized him in their famous songs, such JB Mpiana, Felix Wazekwa and Karmapa. Dicko promised to launch his first solo album in early 2018, where his famous song of I belong to you will be included. He's the Leader of Hip Soukous. He often played with Rumbafrica as well.[1]

Family[edit]
Dicko is the third son of Professor Kasongo Munganga and Marie-Antho Mbwaki Kasongo. He has 2 big brothers (José & Musenga), 2 little brothers (Kamu & Mbaya), and 2 little sisters (Mignonne & Irène). On July 13, 2000, he married Germaine Kasongo so far. Their child, Jean learned the double bass at the Conservatory school. He is the current bassist of Hip Soukous. Their second child, Marie also attended Conservatory school where she professionalized her flute skills.
