Dodie Shepard
Dodie Shepard is a costume designer from Los Angeles, California. She has been nominated for an Emmy award twice; once in 1987 for her work on the Betty Ford Story and again in 1988 for her work on What Price Victory.[1] In her career, she achieved 17 credits as lead costume designer and more than 20 credits in costuming. She is often noted for her work on Star Trek V: The Final Frontier and Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, in which she designed unique black-and-red costumes for the Klingons as well as an updated Starfleet uniform.
Shepard was born in 1934 in San Diego, California.[2] MGM studio put her under contract in 1946, when she was still a pre-teen, and she moved to Los Angeles. Her first film role was in The Unfinished Dance starring Cyd Charisse. She later graduated from LA High School and eventually turned from acting to costuming. She was nominated for a Saturn Award in 1992 for her work on Star Trek: The Undiscovered Country. Examples of her design work on these films can still be found in circulation.[3] Among other films she designed for are Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III, and Mel Brooks' comedy Robin Hood: Men in Tights.
Shepard is retired and serves on the Legacy board of the Costume Designers Guild, local 892.[4] A
