Donald Eugene Brown (born February 11, 1956), known professionally as Don Brown, is an entrepreneur, investor, and philanthropist.[1][2][3] He is the co-founder of Dealership Programming, Inc.; co-founder of Software Artistry, Inc.; co-founder of Interactive Intelligence; founder of Interactive Academy, and founder and CEO of LifeOmic, Inc.
Early life and education[edit]
Donald Eugene Brown was born on February 11, 1956 on a military base in Maryland, and he is one of 6 children.[4] Brown’s father settled the family in Indianapolis after his retirement from the US Army. His father owned a Gulf Oil service station where Brown worked part-time while in high school.[4]
Brown graduated from North Central High School in Indianapolis.[5] Brown received a bachelor’s in physics from Indiana University in 1978, a master’s in computer science from Indiana University in 1982, and a Doctor of Medicine (MD) from the Indiana University School of Medicine in 1985. While serving as CEO of Interactive Intelligence, he obtained a master’s in biotechnology from Johns Hopkins University in 2017.

Dealership Programming, Inc.[edit]
Brown co-founded Dealership Programming, which was his first software company, while attending medical school. In 1980, Brown's college roommate asked him to write a new software program for his father’s car dealership, and it turned into Dealership Programming.[6] The company was purchased by Electronic Data Systems (EDS) at the behest of General Motors Acceptance Corporation (GMAC), and Brown and his college roommate used that money to co-found his second start-up, Software Artistry, Inc.[6]
Software Artistry, Inc.[edit]
Brown co-founded Software Artistry in 1988, which became the first software company in Indiana to go public.[7] The company was later acquired by International Business Machines corporation (IBM) for more than $200 million.[8]
Interactive Intelligence, Inc.[edit]
Brown then co-founded and served as CEO of Interactive Intelligence, which went public in 1999. The company was acquired by Genesys Telecommunications Laboratories in 2016 for $1.4 billion.[9]
LifeOmic, Inc.[edit]
LifeOmic, Inc. was founded in late 2016 by Brown. Brown currently serves as the CEO of the company.
Other efforts / philanthropy[edit]
In the early 2000s, Brown donated 1 million dollars to an African AIDS program.[10]
In 2016, Brown donated $30 million for the establishment of the Brown Immunotherapy Center at the Indiana University School of Medicine.[11]
Brown is the founder of Interactive Academy.[12]
Recognition[edit]
Brown was named Sagamore of the Wabash by then Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels in 2012.[13]
