Dr Parag Telang is a 39 years old consultant cosmetic and reconstructive plastic surgeon, Mumbai. He specializes in aesthetic and reconstructive plastic surgery. Also, he is director of cosmetic plastic surgery services at Designer Bodyz Centre for Advanced Cosmetic Surgery, Andheri (W), Mumbai.

Early life[edit]

Dr Parag Telang was born in Phaltan (a small town near Pune) on 15th February 1979. He attended S.S.E.M.S high school from 1st to Xth std and topped throughout. He also represented his school for two years (std 9th and10th) in Inter-state football competition.

He was in merit list with VII Rank in S.S.C board exams (Kohlapur university) held in June 1994. In H.S.C Board exams conducted in June 1996, he secured 80th Rank in the state merit list in science stream (Kolhapur University).

Education[edit]

Dr Parag Telang graduated from Grant Medical College and Sir J.J. Group of Hospitals, Byculla, Mumbai in January 2001 with ‘Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS)’. During graduation, he won several Medi-Quiz competitions in the annual festival “Astitva” of G.M.C. He was awarded the prestigious Henry Gray medal for proficiency in Anatomy in the inter-collegiate examination in Anatomy held in Jan 1998. He stood 2nd in the Pharmacology quiz conducted at G.M.C in 1998. He stood 2nd in the Glaxo-SmithKline “All-India Essay Competition (2000) for an essay titled “Prevalence of HBV in India –Are we equipped to meet the challenge?” The same year he stood 2nd in the Paediatrics Quiz conducted at GMC in 2000 under the Indian Association of Paediatrics (I.A.P)

In Jan 2002 he secured 89th rank in Maharashtra State Post-Graduate Entrance Exam. The same year he passed the Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) exam registered by the American Heart Association. In Feb 2003 Dr Parag Telang enrolled for Master of Surgery (M.S) (General Surgery) at Lokmanya Tilak Municipal General Hospital (L.T.M.G.H). In 2005 Dr Parag passed the Advanced Trauma Life Support Exam (ATLS). In September 2005 he earned 1st rank in Fellowship Exam of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Bombay (F.C.P.S.) (General Surgery). In January 2006 Dr Parag Telang Passed the Master of Surgery (M.S) degree exam of the Mumbai University and stood 2nd in the university. In the June 2006, he passed the Diplomate of National Board (D.N.B) degree exam for the speciality of General Surgery. The same year he also passed Parts I and II of the Intercollegiate M.R.C.S Exam Edin). The third part was completed in Feb 2009, and in April 2009 he was awarded the membership of the Royal College of Surgeons of England. In July 2006 he secured 32nd rank in the Maharashtra State Super-Speciality Entrance Exam (SS-CET) and got admission at Lokmanya Tilak Municipal Medical College and General Hospital for M.Ch in Plastic Surgery.

Research Activities[edit]

Dr Parag Telang worked on the post-graduate thesis topic “Daycare surgery” with hydrocoelectomy under local anaesthesia as the prototype. It was a randomized controlled trial (R.C.T) enrolling more than 100 patients voluntary. The study revealed that if day-care surgeries are encouraged Municipal hospitals can save up to Rs. 91,800/-annually and also the long waiting lists for these surgeries can be eliminated.

Dr Parag was part of the Phase II study of a Double-Blind Randomised Control Trial (R.C.T) conducted at L.T.M.G.H in June-July 2005 for comparison of two groups of 3rd generation antibiotics used in the treatment of perforative peritonitis. In this trial, a total of 200 patients were enrolled.

Dr Parag also did research work on the applications of ‘Expanded Supraclavicular Artery Flap’ on ten patients at Dept of Plastic Surgery, LTMGH resulting in an original research paper that got accepted for publication in the Indian Journal of Plastic Surgery.

Specialization[edit]

Dr Parag earned fellowship in complex surgery of autologous ear reconstruction under Dr Francoise Firmin at Paris, France. So far he has performed more than 200 autologous ear reconstructions. He specialised in Minimal Incision Face-Lift (MACS-Lift) from Gent, Belgium. He has completed over 1200 body contouring surgeries utilising ultrasonic liposuction (z-lipo). He has M.Ch teaching experience of 3 years as an Assistant Professor at prestigious Lokmanya Tilak Municipal General Hospital and Medical College, Mumbai. Till date, he has performed over 4000 successful cosmetic surgeries and has delivered more than 150 FFS surgeries. He has done more than 600 breast implant surgeries and 30 gender reassignment surgeries for transgender patients. He has attained proficiency in“incision-less” breast augmentation through trans-axillary route. Have also received specialized training in post-bariatric body contouring surgeries such as belt lipectomy, arm and thigh tucks.

He offers facial feminisation surgery at his centre for advanced cosmetic surgery located at Andheri West, Mumbai, India.

Dr Parag Telang is a member of Royal College of Surgeons (M.R.C.S) Of United Kingdom, and Diplomate of the National Board, New Delhi (D.N.B) in General Surgery. Also, he is a life member of International Society of Aesthetic Plastic surgeons (ISAPS), Association of Plastic Surgeons of India (APSI) and Indian Association of Aesthetic Plastic surgeons (IAAPS).

Social Activities[edit]

1. Team Leader of the Health Evaluation Camp organized by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India at Dharavi, Mumbai in 2004. The camp consisted of medical evaluation, detection of treatable medical and surgical diseases and appropriate referral to the Tertiary care hospital. 2. Dr Parag Telang was the team leader at a Vasectomy camp organized by Brihanmumbai Mahanagarpalika, the local Municipal Corporation in the year 2005 in which more than 100 patients underwent the sutureless vasectomy operation conducted under local anaesthesia.
